Stephen Bryan Duncan, Sr. (75), passed away on Tuesday, April 23, 2024, at home surrounded by his family after a hard-fought battle with cancer. Steve, a native Charlottean, a graduate of Garinger High School and Golden Gate University where he received his MBA lived an amazing and full life. He was an Air Force Veteran, and he served in Peace Corps (Russia); he owned small businesses, and also worked in large organizations like Pelton & Crane and Atrium HealthCare System. He was a devoted do-it-yourselfer who could rebuild a car engine, build a deck, or paint the exterior of a house all by hand; he could carry deep conversations about economics or politics; he loved going on long walks with his neighborhood buddies; he enjoyed traveling and visiting new places, but most of all he loved his family and he loved connecting with people – relatives, friends, neighbors, or just strangers when he didn't shy away from asking for directions.
Steve was a son of late Marvin W. Duncan and late Sarah Wingate, and a brother of late Richard Duncan and late Vivian Elizabeth Duncan. He was a husband of Nadia Duncan for 25 years. Steve is survived by his 3 children (Wendy Schultz, Stephanie Tanner, and Stephen Duncan Jr.), 5 grandchildren (James Ross, Denna Suchonic, Mason Duncan, Austin Duncan, Walker Duncan) and 4 great grandchildren (Karalyne Ross, Kendall Ross, Ayverie Suchonic, Alyse Cochrane), and by his 2 brothers (James Duncan and Scot Duncan), 4 sisters (Gayle Hales, Donna McTyre, Carole Dulin, and Tricia Griffin) as well as by his extended family of 2 aunts, his cousins, sister and brothers-in-law, his nieces and nephews, and spouses of his children and grandchildren.
He will be greatly missed.
The service to honor Steve's life will take place on Saturday, May 4th, 2024, at 2pm at Williams Memorial Presbyterian Church (4700 Beatties Ford Road, Charlotte NC 28216). The family will receive relatives and friends at 12pm at the same location for fellowship and to share memories about Steve. Light meal and refreshments will be provided.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Williams Memorial Presbyterian Church.
We would like to give special thank you to Atrium Health Levine Cancer Institute Hematology Oncology team as well as to Atrium Health Carolinas Rehabilitation hospital team for their caring and support in the last year.

Steve was a very kind brother -in-law. He seemed to always enjoy life, wherever he was, especially with Nadia at his side.

I so admired their affection for each other and all his family.

He will be sorely missed.

Rest in Peace with your Savior, Steve.

Love,
Betty
