Stephen T. Haran

June 20, 1949 - December 31, 2025

Stephen Haran, age 76, passed away on December 31, 2025, due to esophageal cancer. He was surrounded by his loving wife, children and his grandchildren, whom he adored, and who were a great comfort and source of joy to him during his last days.

He was born in Brooklyn, New York on June 20, 1949, to Anne and Stephen Haran. He was the oldest of seven children, and took this role very seriously, especially in light of the fact that his dad died unexpectedly at the age of 47 and his youngest sibling, Terrence, was only 4 years old.

Stephen attended Saints Simon and Jude Grammar School, Bishop Ford High School, where he was a member of the Drama Club, Forensics, and the Varsity Baseball team. He received an athletic scholarship to attend St. Francis College, where he was an ace pitcher. He was a member of Phi Alpha Fraternity and maintained many of the friendships long after graduation. He earned a BA in Political Science and graduated in June 1972. He then began a successful career with New York Telephone Company, where he quickly rose to become an executive. Upon retiring, he started his own consulting company. Following this, he began working at Tekmark, heading a subsidiary company as CEO.

Stephen married his High School sweetheart, Madalena Milo, on September 17, 1972. Together they raised three wonderful, successful children -- Stephen (Doctor Steve), Jeannine and LouAnn, both Special Education teachers, who were his pride and joy. Then came the grandchildren -- Caitlyn Rose, Hannah Grace, John Dennis, Christoher Andrew, Madalena and Charles Stephen.

His wife, Madalena, claims that she picked him out in the 6th grade, and thought, ''I'm going to marry Stephen someday'' and she did. They spent 53 wonderful and loving years together. Stephen was an extremely kind and empathetic individual. He never passed a needy person by without giving them whatever he had in his pocket. He donated to many charities, but his favorite one was St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. He was generous to a fault. His children need only mention something and it would magically appear soon after. Stephen was also super intelligent and could speak on many subjects as he loved to do with his younger brother, Gerard, who he thought the world of and his remaining siblings, Peggy and Anne. He lost his three other siblings, Terrence, Kevin (his golf partner) and Kathleen some years before.

His wife, Madalena, would always say that in elections, the candidate whom Stephen voted for would always receive two votes, since she always followed his lead. Stephen loved life, vacationing, his wife's food, and dining out with friends and family. The most important thing in his life was his was his family. He lived for them always putting their needs ahead of his. It is also important to mention what a wonderful relationship he had with his sister in law, LouAnn, and her husband Frank, who lived only a few blocks away. There is so much more to mention about this wonderful man, but I'll just say he was one in a million and loved by everyone.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 - 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 4, 2026, at John Vincent Scalia Home for Funerals, Inc., 28 Eltingville Blvd, Staten Island, New York.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, January 5, 2026 at Our Lady Star of the Sea located at 5411 Amboy Road Staten Island, New York 10312. Interment will be in Resurrection Cemetery, Staten Island, NY.

To the Haran Family,
My name is Liz (Cipolla) Koplitz. I was raised on West 7th Street with Maddie, and we were best friends as children. My heart is broken for her and her family. We were at her wedding and knew they were so happy then and always.
Our prayers are with her and with her family and mourn with them during this difficult time.
