Watertown - It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Stephen Dragone Harrington who died peacefully with his beloved husband, Sebastien at his side on February 1, 2024.
Stephen was born on October 10, 1951, in Watertown, MA, to Louise (Dragone) Harrington and Frederick E. Harrington. He attended St. Mary’s High School, Waltham, class of ‘69. He continued his education in horticulture and psychology, graduating from Lesley University where he later taught. Stephen was a beloved mental health provider for over 40 years. He was a gardener extraordinaire; flowers sprung up wherever he opened ground.
Of Stephen’s most cherished accomplishments is their home ANAM CARA, that together, he and Seb created in Dunmanway, County Cork, Ireland. Inspired by the land there, they nurtured their dream ~ farming, gardening, tending to their adored animals and pets, family, and close friends.
Stephen will be tremendously missed by his treasured husband Sebastien Roumeau and Stephen’s large loving family in the States: siblings, Sister Barbara Harrington, OP (Norwood), Michael Harrington and his wife Susan (Bedford), Anne Gallagher and her husband Thomas (Arlington), David Harrington and his wife Eileen (Chelmsford), 8 nieces and nephews, 18 grand-nieces and nephews, as well as many cousins. Stephen was pre-deceased by his loving parents “Jeannie” and Fred Harrington and his older brother Frederick E. Harrington, Jr. (Ricky). In addition, Stephen leaves his dearly loved family in France: in-laws Colette and Christian Roumeau, Delphine and Jerome Potin, their children Arthus (deceased 2022), Philemene, and Mayeul Potin.
Stephen was blessed with the gift of friendship. He will be missed by his closest friends, John Cannon (Watertown), Maggie Shropshire (Waltham), Michelle Essex (Laguna Beach, Ca.), Sheila Wofsy and Reggie Lenoir (Suches, Ga.) as well as friends from every walk of life.
Family and friends will honor and remember Stephen’s life by gathering to visit on Friday, February 9th from 11:00 a.m. to 12 p.m. in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street Waltham followed by his funeral service at 12 Noon. Burial is private.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Stephen’s memory may be made to: The Cpl. Frederick E. Harrington, Jr. Scholarship Fund, American Legion, Bedford Chapter 221 c/o Paul McGrath, 357 Great Road, Bedford, Ma 01730
