Stephen Hebert Obituary

Dr. Stephen James Hebert (Doc), 70, of Belle Chasse, passed away on November 26, 2022. Stephen was born on October 29, 1952 to the late Andrew and Carmella Hebert. After Stephen graduated from De La Salle in 1970, he enlisted in the Air Force and was stationed at McDill Air Force base in Tampa, Florida. While there, he studied Biology at the University of Tampa. He also met his wife Patsy in Tampa and they were married in May of 1978. Stephen graduated in 1981 from LSU Veterinary School. He and Patsy opened their first clinic in Port Sulphur in the mid-80's and then a second location in Belle Chasse. Stephen continued to practice veterinary medicine full-time to this day. Stephen and Patsy have two daughters, Natalie Barranco (John) and Jeanine Chapman (Tex), and four granchilden, Cheslea Chapman, Celeste Chapman, Dominic Barranco, and Vincent Barranco. Brother of Wayne Hebert, Diane Magee (Ray), and David Hebert. Brother-in-law of Bill Flowers, Jr (Carolyn). For those who knew him, they know he was always with Patsy. He would often say that if he could, he would live in Patsy's front pocket. They were inseparable. He loved his two daughters immensely and tolerated his son-in-laws. He was enamored with his four grandchildren and he was able to play a very active role in their lives as a guide and mentor. In his spare time, Stephen enjoyed traveling, photography, golf, and fishing…but most of all, it was spending time with Patsy, the love of his life. Relatives and Friends of the Family are invited to attend the Visitation at Mothe Funeral Home, 7040 Lapalco Blvd., Marrero, LA on Thursday, December 1, 2022 from 4 PM until 8 PM. Visitation will resume Friday, December 2, 2022 from 9 AM until 11 AM. Words of Remembrance will be shared by the family at 11 AM followed by the Funeral Mass in the chapel at 11:30 AM. So sorry for the loss of one of the nicest people I have ever met

Richard Broussard

December 3, 2022

Patsy,
This is Richard Broussard, Steve´s classmate from Vet School. I know Rusty told you I had surgery Thursday morning, which is absolutely the only reason why I wasn´t there to personally give you my condolences on the loss of a great friend, husband, father & grandfather, as well as a great veterinarian & stand up comedian. I think it´s always been a toss up between Steve & Rusty as to who could make me laugh the hardest. Steve called me about 2-3 months ago, I can´t remember what it was about, but once business was taken care of, we cut up & laughed on the phone for a good 30-40 minutes. It was so good to hear his voice and hear his laugh as I hadn´t seen him in a few years, since one of the last LVMA conventions, but we just picked up where we left off. I was so shocked when Nancy Rumore informed me of his passing, just as we all were when Jim passed. I´m so sorry for your loss. But remember , we have Jesus as our Blessed Hope, who paid the ultimate price for all of our sins, that we can be reunited with all of our loved ones who have called upon Him, on That Day......." For whosoever calls upon the Name of The Lord will be saved!"(Romans 10:13). Steve will be missed by hundreds, if not thousands, of people, as a veterinarian, & a family man. The world has truly lost a great man. I loved Steve dearly. God Bless you & the entire family & I ask The Lord to shower all of you with His Grace,Mercy & Love in this sad time of life.
Richard

I am so very sorry for your loss. Buddy and I loved Dr. Hebert. Now they are together. I just found out, otherwise, I would have been there with you. If you need anything, or a shoulder to cry on, I am here. God bless you and your girls and give you the strength you need to love through this passing.

You will be dearly missed by many species here, my friend. I know you are enjoying a hero´s welcome to the other side. You did so much for humans and animals alike; even during the darkest hours of Katrina. I am honored to have gotten to know you as you encouraged me to keep the torch burning for all that is good and right in the veterinary profession. I´ll always smile and think of you as the vet uncle I never had. Till we all meet again... keep an eye on us, Doc! I know you will be watching over your sweetheart, Patsy.

Dr Hebert has been our vet since the 80s... taking care of our dogs until present day. This man also took it upon himself to rescue animals with the National Guard immediately after Hurricane Katrina- treating them as needed and ensuring they were reunited with their families or adopted into new ones. We will miss you Doc tremendously. Sending our love and prayers to Ms Patsy and family. God bless! Rest In Peace Doc.
