Stephen Hennigar Obituary

Stephen J. Hennigar, age 77, of Oscoda, passed away on Sept. 16, 2025 in Tawas City.
Steve was born to the late Jerry and Margaret (Jolley) Hennigar on May 22, 1948, in Harrisville. Steve was a lifelong resident of Oscoda, an area he adored greatly and dedicated his life to. He was a proud graduate of Oscoda High School, Class of 1966.
Following his high school graduation, Steve attended Michigan State University for his undergraduate degree, and eventually went on to receive a Master's Degree in Education from Central Michigan University. Steve initially taught in Wyoming, Mich. but was able to return home where he immediately integrated himself into the Oscoda school system.
He was an educator for several years, but also served in many different roles including coaching, Assistant Principal, Principal and Athletic Director. Steve retired from Oscoda schools in 2010, but the legacy he left will never be forgotten. After retiring, he obtained his real estate license and became an agent selling homes for a few years.
In 1976, he married the love of his life, Linda (Burton) Hennigar. They were married at St. John's Episcopal Church in Oscoda. The two of them spent 49 amazing years together taking on life and making endless memories. Linda was Steve's true love, and anywhere she went, he was right beside her. They loved to travel together, and took several trips each year in their mobile home visiting various locations in Michigan, Canada and Florida.
Steve enjoyed many varied interests including golfing, cooking, boating, RVing, playing pool, watching sports, and most importantly spending quality time with his family and friends. Steve belonged to the National Interscholastic Athletic Association, the Kiwanis Club, and the Lions Club. Steve had a sarcastic wit with a great sense of humor. He was a loyal, reliable, trustworthy, and caring individual, and he will be missed dearly by so many.
Steve is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Linda Hennigar; sisters, Virginia (Mark) Misenheimer, Ann (Mark) Millis, and Marian Hennigar; sister-in-law, Sharon Hennigar; nieces and nephews, Corey (Wendy) Burton, Courtney Ingle, and Kraig Hamlin; and his great nieces and nephews, Kathryn, Olivia, Madison, Ashley, Halley, Noah, Olivia, Luke, Brooklyn, and Kinsley. Steve was preceded in death by his parents, Jerry and Margaret Hennigar; sister, Florence Hennigar Hamlin; brother, Douglas Hennigar; and nephew, Kevin Hamlin.
A celebration of life will be planned at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please direct any memorial contributions in Steve's name to the Oscoda Education Opportunity Foundation (P.O. Box 618, Oscoda, Michigan 48750). You may leave an online condolence at www.bureshfuneralhomes.com.
