Corinth and Guilford – Stephen C. Herring, 77, passed away November 27, 2024, at St. Joseph Hospital in Bangor, with family by his side. He was born February 3, 1947, in Dover-Foxcroft, the son of Lorin C. and Barbara E. (Perkins) Herring. After graduating from PCHS, Class of 1967, Steve served with the U.S. Army in the 619th Transportation out of Dexter as a Specialist 5th Class from 1967-1973. He worked his entire career as a meat cutter. Steve started learning the family business at the ripe old age of 12 years old. Traveling with his Dad to cattle auctions, learning to butcher, cut meat, and "grind Hamburg!!!" Steve was in a partnership at Herring Bros. Meats in Guilford with his cousin, Andrea, for many years; he sold his share to her in 1999. He then went to work for Hannaford Shop and Save in Bangor. He Managed the meat department in their Union Street location for over 20 years. Steve retired in 2020. He enjoyed following the Red sox, Patriots and Celtics games on TV. Steve's hobby was cutting meat; when he was done with that, he would move onto cutting meat. He could put an edge on a knife that would cut through a feather.
Steve is survived by two sons, Randy Herring and his fiancée, Melissa Roy, and Michael Herring and his wife, Jill; daughter, Kendra Gardner; three grandchildren, Claire and Jackson Herring, and Edith Gardner; baby sister, Sherry French and her husband, Jim; brother-in-law, Randy Tyler; his Uncle Charlie and Aunt Clara Perkins; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents, and just six weeks ago (Oct. 15, 2024) lost his older sister, Marcia Tyler.
A family graveside with military honors will be held in the spring of 2025 in the family lot in Gray Cemetery, Dover-Foxcroft. Arrangements are in the care of the Lary Funeral Home. Messages of condolence and memories may be expressed at www.laryfuneralhome.com.
