In Loving Memory of Rev. Stephen Harvey Jobe

On July 14, 2025, Heaven opened its gates to welcome home our beloved Brother in Christ, Rev. Stephen Harvey Jobe, who passed away at the age of 77, surrounded by his family at his home in Marengo, Ohio.

Stephen was born on April 15, 1948, in Bristol, Virginia, to the late Julian Dorse and Goldie Ruth (Amburgey) Jobe, who both preceded him in death.

Stephen was a kind, selfless man who always put others before himself. He deeply loved his family, cherished his faith, and served both with unwavering devotion. A dedicated worker, he served as the Town Constable of Ashley, Ohio for a year, spent 15 years at Sunray Stove in Delaware, 13 years at OSU Marion, and 36 years with WOCB-CD TV in Marion. He faithfully led as Pastor of New Covenant Church in Marion for 26 years.

Music was one of Stephen's many passions-he loved playing guitar, singing, and writing songs. He especially enjoyed playing around the campfire during family gatherings. One of his most cherished memories was singing a song he wrote for his beloved Rene at their wedding. Stephen married the love of his life, Rene (Bryant) Jobe, on September 11, 1993, in Delaware, Ohio. Together they built a beautiful life in Marengo.

Stephen proudly served his country in the U.S. Army for five years as a Vietnam War veteran with the 82nd Airborne. We honor and thank him for his service.

He is survived by his loving wife, Rene, and their children: David Jobe of Coshocton, OH; James (Renee) Paxton of Detroit, MI; Julian Paxton of Scottsburg, IN; Jason Scribner of Millersburg, OH; John (Elizabeth) Wiggins of Colorado Springs, CO; and Bradley (Tangela) Fell of Plain City, OH. His daughters include Sarah (John) Ramsey of Mount Gilead, OH; Brittany (James) Wires of Cardington, OH; and Brandie Fell (Seth) of Mount Gilead, OH. He was a proud grandfather to 25 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Stephen is also survived by his brother Dana Brett (Lori) Jobe, his sister Angela (Joe) Hamilton, and brothers- and sisters-in-law: Raymond (Tina) Bryant, Betty (Harry) Sowards, Herbert (Kathy) Bryant, Don (Bobby) Bryant, Sidney (Rachel) Bryant, and Thomas (Angela) Bryant.

A celebration of Stephen's life will be held on Saturday, July 26, 2025, at 11:00 A.M. at his home (1338 Township Road 222 / GPS: 1338 Greene Road, Marengo, OH). The service will take place under a tent and will include singing, preaching, and time for anyone who wishes to share memories. Following the service, we will proceed to the Marengo cemetery for his burial and a 21-gun salute in honor of his military service. Afterward, there will be a short break before returning to Stephen and Rene's home for a dinner with family and friends.

Stephen's favorite color was blue, and the family kindly asks guests to wear blue in his honor rather than black-though all are welcome, no matter what you wear.

For nearly 17 years, Stephen faced cancer with remarkable strength and unwavering faith. Despite the many challenges and setbacks that accompanied his illness, he never lost hope or his generous spirit. Throughout his long journey, Stephen continued to inspire those around him by living each day to the fullest, cherishing time with family, nurturing his faith, and spreading kindness wherever he went. His resilience in the face of adversity stands as a testament to his character, and his courage brought comfort and inspiration to all who knew him. Though cancer may have taken his body, Stephen's spirit remains alive in our hearts, and we hold tightly to the promise that we will see him again.
