Stephen Allen Lafuente, age 55, of Mount Morris, passed away unexpectedly in the early morning of September 3, 2025, at his home. A funeral service will be held at 11:30 AM on Tuesday, September 9, 2025, at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Road, Swartz Creek. Chaplin Hank Messing will preside. Burial with military honors will follow at 1:30 PM at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly. Visitation will take place from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Monday, September 8, at the funeral home, and again from 10:00 AM until the time of service on Tuesday. Those desiring may direct memorial contributions to Autism Speaks, P.O. Box 37148, Boone, IA 50037-0148.

Stephen was born on January 21, 1970, in Flint, the son of the late Jose Sr. and Judith (Minnick) Lafuente. He graduated with the Kearsley High School Class of 1988. In July 1991, Stephen proudly enlisted in the United States Army. He served as a Specialist in the Bravo Battery 3-7 Field Artillery of the 25th Infantry Division until his honorable discharge in February 1994. Stephen was employed with Wm. Floyd Mechanical Contractors and was a proud member of Sheet Metal Workers Local Union #7, working as an HVAC Technician. He loved spending time with his family, friends, and his beloved dog, Rocco. Some of his happiest moments were at the cabin on Cranberry Lake, enjoying fishing trips, and cherishing his nieces and nephews, who were truly the lights of his life.

He is survived by his siblings, Joe Jr. (Christa) Lafuente and Joann (Scott) Allen; loving nieces and nephews, Alexis (Alex) Kazal, Alex Lafuente, Travis Brooks (fiancée, Kalee Johnson), and Chase Lafuente; his beloved dog, Rocco; and those special to his heart: Brittni, Jared, Victoria, Halena, Cassandra, and Trevor. He also leaves behind many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends; his “second parents,” Don and Karen Johnson; and his “second siblings,” Don Johnson and Jennifer Quarters. Stephen was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents. Tributes may be shared at www.sharpfuneralhomes.com.
