Stephen ll Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Auble-Gillman Funeral Home - Rittman on Jan. 29, 2026.
Stephen Douglas Hudson II (April 18, 1976 - January 18, 2026), age 49, passed away after a courageous and extraordinary life marked by resilience, kindness, and an enduring love for his family, friends and the outdoors.

Born and raised in Wadsworth, Ohio, Stephen developed an early appreciation for nature that stayed with him throughout his life. He loved to camp, hike, and fish, finding peace and joy under open skies and along quiet waters. When he wasn't out camping, he was happily planning his next adventure, always looking forward to where the road or trail might lead.

Family was the most important thing to Stephen. He was a devoted son, brother, uncle, and friend, known for his gentle heart, quick wit, and warm sense of humor. Stephen had a rare ability to make others feel comfortable, supported, and genuinely cared for.

Stephen earned his undergraduate degree from The University of Akron and later completed his Master of Arts in History degree at Shippensburg University. Following his education, he spent five years teaching in Xi'An and Shanghai, China-an experience that reflected his adventurous spirit and passion for education. After returning to the United States, Stephen continued his teaching career at Sussex, Warren, and Union County Community Colleges in New Jersey, where he made a meaningful impact on countless students.

Throughout his life, Stephen heroically battled cancer four times, facing each challenge with remarkable strength, grace, and perseverance. His courage and spirit continue to inspire all who knew him.

Stephen is survived by his father, Stephen Hudson; his sisters, Charla Hudson-Crimi (John) and Andrea Hudson-Roial (Morgan); his nephew, Tyler Hudson-Crimi (Karin); his nieces, Samantha Crimi Sousa (Andy) and Peyton Crimi; his great-nephew, Logan Sousa; and his beloved dog, Meli, who was a constant and cherished companion.

Stephen will be remembered as one of the kindest and most genuinely humorous people one could ever meet. His legacy lives on in shared laughter, family bonds, and every trail, campsite, and shoreline that echoes his adventurous spirit.

He is now home with his beloved mother, Sheryl Hayes, whom he missed dearly after her passing in 2021. Fly high, Stephen. You are deeply loved and will be forever missed.

A private memorial will take place. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to an organization of your choice supporting park preservation or cancer research, in honor of Stephen's love for nature and his heroic fight against cancer.
