Stephen George Loverde

Stephen George Loverde, 91, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on August 6, 2024. Born to George and Margaret, Steve was their only child and enjoyed a wonderful childhood surrounded by family and cousins.

A graduate of DePaul University with a degree in history, Steve's life took a fateful turn when he met Carol, the love of his life, just weeks before beginning his two-year service in the Army. While Steve served in Germany, Carol became close with his family and planned their wedding. They married upon his return in 1958, beginning a beautiful union that would last almost 66 years.

Steve and Carol raised three children: Debbie, Steve, and Tom. A devoted father, Steve coached his boys in baseball and taught them golf, while Debbie remained the apple of his eye. An avid sports enthusiast, Steve's passion for athletics was a cornerstone of family life.

Steve was a lifelong employee of State Farm Insurance, retiring in 1995.

In their later years, Steve and Carol split their time between their homes in Illinois and Florida, where they enjoyed warm weather, golfing and fostered many wonderful friendships. Their Florida residence became a favorite destination for their grandchildren, who cherish memories of spring breaks filled with golf cart rides, visits to the seven pools at Seven Lakes, and indulging in Grandma's delicious Italian cooking when not exploring their favorite local restaurants.

Known as a gifted storyteller, Steve's vibrant personality left an indelible mark on all who knew him. His legacy of love, laughter, and family devotion will live on through his beloved wife, Carol, his children, grandchildren, great-granddaughter, and the many friends and family members whose lives he touched.

Steve is survived by his wife, Carol (nee Anderson); his daughter, Debbie (Reese) Marcusson, and sons, Stephen (Annalisa) Loverde and Thomas (Lindy) Loverde; grandchildren, Courtney (Patrick) Grenning, Taylor Marcusson, Lauren (Matthew) Heppert, Cristina (Johnathon) Pann, Isabella Loverde, Julia Loverde, Colleen Loverde, Joseph Loverde and Grace Loverde; stepgrandchildren, Alex Burckle, and Jack Burckle; great-granddaughter, Clara Grenning; sister-in-law, Marilyn Barrier; and uncle to many. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Visitation Thursday, August 8, 2024, from 4-7 PM at Smith-Corcoran Funeral Home, 185 E. Northwest Hwy., Palatine and Friday, August 9, 2024, 9:30 AM until time of funeral Mass at 10:30 AM at St. Alphonsus Liguori Church, 411 N. Wheeling Road, Prospect Heights. Entombment All Saints Mausoleum.
