Stephen Mamros Obituary

The family of Steve Mamros, of Lower Burrell, is saddened to announce his passing on Tuesday, Sept. 9, 2025, with his family by his side. Steve was born on Aug. 19, 1949, in New Kensington, a son of the late Stephen and Elizabeth (Papcun) Mamros. Raised in South Leechburg, Steve graduated from Kiski Area High School and then completed an automotive repair certification program at Vale Technical Institute. Steve later attended the Art Institute of Pittsburgh, where he developed his passion for photography and met his wife, Cheryl ("Cookie") Cribbs. Using his knowledge of photography and cameras, Steve managed a national chain of photography studios for over 50 years, traveling to the various studio locations across the country. Later, he continued his lifelong interest in cars by working at a local auto parts store, where he made many friends and enjoyed helping customers solve their car issues. A self-taught craftsman with seemingly infinite patience and quiet determination, he was always designing or building something new. Steve built numerous full-size kit cars from the ground up, customized his Chevrolet Camaro for drag racing, hand-built both a sailboat and a pontoon boat, and fine-tuned the aerodynamics of his handcrafted RC planes. His passions also included stargazing and telescopic photography and listening to his favorite soul and blues music while working on his projects. He especially enjoyed traveling with his family to Disney World, exploring the U.S. national parks, and visiting Sanibel Island to add unique seashells to his collection. Steve never stopped finding something new about the world to admire or study. He was quick to share his knowledge or lend a hand with any project. His lifelong curiosity, kindness, good humor, and gentle spirit will be fondly remembered and will live on in all who loved him. He will be greatly missed. Steve was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Nancy Vecchio. Steve is survived by his wife of 49 years, Cheryl; his daughters, Audrey and Lauren Mamros (Ryan Kish); his brother, Michael Mamros (Susan); sister-in-law, Sheila Shreckengost (John); nieces and nephews; and many other relatives. Steve was a member of St. Margaret Mary Church in Lower Burrell. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 14, 2025, at RUSIEWICZ OF LOWER BURRELL FUNERAL HOME, 3124 Leechburg Road, at Alder St., where funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m., Monday, Sept. 15, 2025. Burial will follow in Greenwood Memorial Park, Lower Burrell. www.RusiewiczFH.com.
