Stephen DeWitt McDaniel, 70, of Argyle, Texas, passed away on February 26, 2026. Born on July 4, 1955, to DeWitt and Stella McDaniel, Steve lived a life as bold, generous, and full of spirit as the holiday he was born on.
Steve’s roots in Argyle ran deep. He attended Argyle Primary School, later attending Denton High School. Determined to build a solid future through skilled, honest work, he enrolled in the Plumbers & Pipefitters Local Union #100 Apprentice School, where he trained to become a pipe fitter—a profession he took great pride in. His dedication, craftsmanship, and strong work ethic earned him the respect of his brothers in the Plumbers & Pipefitters Local 100 and a lifetime of treasured friendships. His parents and family owned and operated Argyle Mechanical Inc in Dallas for over 22 years.
Steve loved God wholeheartedly and carried his faith into every corner of his life. He cherished his family above all, always showing up with a big heart, a kind word, and a joke ready to brighten any room. His adventurous spirit led him outdoors, where he found joy in guns, hunting, playing games, garage sales, 4-wheeling and fast muscle cars—passions that reflected his love of freedom and excitement.
He also had a love for singing a joy he shared freely with those around him. Whether it was a hymn, a favorite song, or just a tune that matched his mood, Steve sang with the same warmth and enthusiasm that defined his life. And he was quick witted and always making up tunes and songs on the fly. On trips, it was a custom to do this all the way to and from the destination.
One of Steve’s happiest places on earth was Lake City, Colorado. Its beauty and peacefulness matched his own spirit, and many of his favorite moments were made there. He also deeply valued his EFL men’s Bible study group, where he found fellowship, purpose, and friends who strengthened his walk with faith.
Steve was preceded in death by his father, Benson DeWitt McDaniel and a long line of Grandparents. He is survived by his mother, Stella McDaniel, Argyle; his wife, Ginger McDaniel, Argyle; his daughter, Kristi Mohundro, and her husband, Rhett of Tennessee; his son, Jeremy McDaniel, and his wife, Heather of Argyle; his grandchildren, Nicole Hile, Tiffany Johnson, Adam Mohundro and Barrett McDaniel; and his sister, Stephanie Crider, and her husband, Mike. He is also lovingly remembered by many in-laws, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends and those he called family who were all touched by his kindness and larger-than-life presence.
Steve’s legacy is one of faith, love, laughter, and adventure. He will be remembered for his big heart, unwavering loyalty, joyful voice, and the light he carried with him everywhere he went.
