BEDFORD NH - Stephen O’Connor, 83, of Bedford NH, formerly of Cherry Valley and Worcester, MA peacefully passed away at home on Thursday March 20, 2025 lovingly surrounded by family.

Eternally reunited with his wife of 47 years, Sarah (Perkins), he leaves his children Stephen E. O’Connor of Worcester, MA, Colum P. O’Connor and his wife Nikki of Lexington, KY, Michael J. O’Connor and his wife Karen of Bedford, NH, Mary Myotte and her husband Adam of Worcester, MA, as well as his 11 grandchildren Alexandra, Gabrielle, Stephen, Seamus, Colum II, Sarah, Michael O’Connor, Ryan Myotte, Aine and Isla O’Connor, and Ben Myotte. He also leaves many nieces and nephews whom he loved very much.

Stephen was predeceased by his siblings John O’Connor, Marie O’Connor, Bridget Doyle, Mark O’Connor, Joseph O’Connor and Patrick O’Connor.

Steve was born in Clifden, Co. Galway, Ireland to Mark and Mary O’Connor, and was lovingly raised by Sarah Thornton of Ballyconneely, Clifden, Co. Galway. Steve left Ireland to pursue work in England at the age of 15. He eventually joined his siblings in the United States where he met the laughter and love of his life, Sarah at the State Ballroom on Mass Ave in Boston much thanks to a “ladies’ choice” dance.

Steve” retired” after many working years at New England Envelope Company as a machinist to do what most retired people do…open an Irish Pub. The Galway Bay in Worcester was established in 2005, and from his famous corner, Steve enjoyed the craic with many friends made over the years there. Steve enjoyed supporting, sponsoring, watching and traveling with many local teams and clubs, most notably the Worcester Fenians and the Worcester Rugby Club.

Outside of work, nothing made Steve more proud than watching his grandchildren do well in school and sports, and achieve their goals. Steve was a quiet man, but known for the gift of his dry wit. He timed his many one-liners just perfectly, awaiting a laugh or more times a look of confusion while he lit up the room with his smirk. Steve also enjoyed distance running, completing many marathons including the Boston Marathon three times. He was an avid golfer, frequently noting he “played with one ball, but always carried two spare.” He had an affinity for his four-legged furry friends - always giving a treat and saving the last bite on his plate for the many dogs he loved and cared for over the years.

Stephen’s visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, March 26th from 4pm to 7pm at Callahan Fay Caswell Funeral Home, 61 Myrtle St., Worcester. His Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, March 27th at 10:00am at Our Lady of the Angels Church, 1222 Main St., Worcester. Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery.

His family are eternally grateful for the support, kindness and compassionate care shown by the staff of the Visiting Nurse Association of Manchester NH. In honor of Stephen, please consider donating to the Alzheimer's Association of Massachusetts and New Hampshire (https://www.alz.org/manh) in lieu of flowers.
