Kenneth E. Gray, passed away peacefully on March 17, 2026, at UMass Medical Center in Worcester, the city where he was born on June 4, 1942. Ken's life was characterized by his unwavering dedication to his loved ones, his passion for the simple pleasures in life, and his commitment to his community.
Ken was the beloved husband of June E.L. (Smith) Gray, with whom he shared 59 years of marriage filled with love, laughter, and mutual support. He was a devoted father to his daughter, Beth G. Lonergan and her husband Timothy of Douglas, and to his son, Chris P. Gray and his wife Kara, also of Douglas. Ken's role as a grandfather was one he cherished deeply, and he took immense joy in the lives of his five grandchildren, Matthew Lonergan, Christopher Lonergan, Ethan Lonergan, Mackenzie Gray, and Owen Gray. He was a brother to Steven Gray of Florida and Louis Gray of Arizona. Ken was predeceased by his sister, Marjorie Buda, and his parents, Louis and Marjorie (Webber) Gray.
For over four decades, Ken was a respected pressman, working diligently for the Worcester Telegram and Gazette and the Boston Globe. His work ethic and professionalism were admired by his colleagues, and his contributions to the field of print media were significant. Ken's involvement with the Douglas Senior Center reflected his commitment to staying active and engaged within his community, where he was a familiar and friendly face.
His interests were a reflection of his love for life and the outdoors. An avid saltwater fisherman, Ken found solace and excitement in the rhythm of the ocean waves. Ken loved trips to Cape Cod especially. He was also a skilled card player, enjoying many games of pitch and cribbage with friends and family.
Above all, Ken was a family man. He never missed an opportunity to be present at his grandchildren's school or sport activities. His pride in their accomplishments was boundless, and his support was unwavering.
He leaves behind a legacy of love and a multitude of memories that will be cherished by his family, his many nieces and nephews, and his wonderful friends. Ken's gentle spirit and generous heart will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
A celebration of Ken's life will be held at a later date.
