Stephen O'Rourke Obituary
Born in Weymouth, MA on May 24, 1944, he was the son of the late Stephen C. O'Rourke and Jeanne (LaMarche) O'Rourke. Stephen is survived by his sister, Denise "DeeDe" (O'Rourke) Thomas and her husband Michael C. Thomas of Portsmouth, his son Patrick O'Rourke and wife Lisa O'Rourke of North Kingstown, his daughter Katherine O'Rourke and former son-in-law Jay B. Ferguson of Warwick, and his daughter Megan O'Rourke and her husband, Mark Chesterton of Middletown, as well as five grandchildren; Rourke Ferguson, Taylor O'Rourke, Luke Ferguson, Shea O'Rourke and Lucy O'Rourke Chesterton.
He graduated from DeLaSalle Academy in 1961 and St. Michael's College, VT in 1966. He was employed by Newport Electric Corp and their succeeding companies for 21 years. He was a self-employed business man in Englewood, FL and then upon returning to this area was employed by Promptus Communications, Video Server Connections and then retired from the Preservation Society of Newport.
In his early years he was active in St. Joseph's parish Men's Club and Confirmation classes. Past president of the Newport County Catholic Regional School parents association. He was the St. Michael's College RI alumnus of the year in 1986. Past member Dennis E. Collins chapter, Ancient Order of Hibernians. Stephen was also very active coaching in the Newport little league and Newport Babe Ruth teams.
A chapel service is planned for Friday, January 16, 2015 1:00p.m. at St. Columba Cemetery, Middletown. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to Lucy's Hearth, 913 West Main Road, Middletown or Visiting Nurse Services, 1184 East Main Rd, Portsmouth.
