Stephen Holmes Sanders, age 89, passed away on February 23, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. Born on April 8, 1935, in Burlington, Kansas, Stephen was the son of Walter and Alma Sanders. He graduated from Burlington High School in 1953 and served in the Navy from 1953 to 1961. Stephen earned a degree in Business Management from Kansas State Teachers College of Emporia in 1960.
In 1956, Stephen married Diane Priefert, and together they shared 68 wonderful years of marriage. They moved to Omaha, Nebraska, in the early sixties, where they raised their two children, David and Susan. Steve was deeply involved in his community, serving as President of Hartman PTA, President of the Downtown Omaha Lions Club and member of the Omaha Executives Association, Scoutmaster, Little League Coach, Campaign Manager, and Census taker. He retired as Sales Manager from KFAB-KGOR.
Steve enjoyed golfing with friends and family, spending Saturdays watching the Huskers, and cherishing moments with his loved ones. He believed strongly in family and enjoyed spending time with his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Steve and Diane shared many hobbies, including reading, traveling, bird watching, playing bridge, and the infamous Skip-Bo games.
Steve's life was a testament to the values of love, service, and family. He will be remembered for his unwavering dedication to his community, his love for his family, and his sense of humor. Steve will be deeply missed by all who know him.
Stephen is survived by his wife, Diane, and their children David Sanders (Vickie) and Susan Larsen (Dan Sample); grandchildren, Melissa Sanders, Zachary Larsen, Travis Sanders (Nicole), Jessica Hill (Alex), Callie Graves (Todd); and 11 Great Grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 1:00 PM - 2:00 PM at Hoy Kilnoski Funeral Home on Friday, April 25, 2025.
Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, April 25, 2025, also at the funeral home. The family invites you to stay for a small reception following the service.
In memory of Stephen, the family requests contributions to be made to the American Heart Association, The Alzheimer's Association, or The Alzheimer's Foundation of America.
