With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Stephen (Steve) Michael Woofter, 42, of Huntersville, who died December 14, 2024. Steve's battle with an aggressive cancer was brief but marked by his resilience and the unending support of his loved ones.
Born in Canton, OH, on April 9, 1982, to Debra S. Woofter and the late James F. Woofter. Steve and Desirae lived a life that took them to many corners of the country and beyond. He embraced every new place with open arms for the sheer love of experiencing something new.
His work as landscaper was more than just a job-it was a passion. He thrived in what he did, finding joy in the challenges, the satisfaction of a job well done, and a lush green lawn with perfect stripes. But it wasn't all about the grind. He had a profound love for nature, spending hours outdoors simply enjoying the mountains, lakes, beaches, and his patio where he'd be cooking up smoked meat feasts with friends and family. He loved music and discovering a new band or seeing a live show. He simply enjoyed the world around him. If you met him, and he liked you, you became his friend, and he has them all over the world.
While he could talk for hours about the details of his work and how long the frost lingered that morning, he'd just as likely make everyone laugh with his humor, quick wit, and excellent meme selections.
Steve leaves behind a legacy of love, countless shenanigans, fun times, and hard work that will never be forgotten. He is survived by his wife, Desirae, their son, Finnegan, his mother, Debra; and siblings, Jonathon (Juli), Tara (Greg), his in-laws John and Carla McBride, and sister-in-law Courtney (Shane). Along with being the best "Muncle Steve" to Nora, Scarlett, Delilah, and James.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date. We will provide details once it is planned after the new year.
In lieu of flowers, we kindly ask you to consider making a contribution to Finnegan's future via go fund me or reaching out to the family directly at https://gofund.me/6f3ddd8d or planting a tree in Steve's honor at www.Arborday.org

It is hard to believe he left us so fast. I enjoyed working with him and talking to him. He was always happy and upbeat. He was more than a landscaper! What a great person and I am better for knowing him. I am so sorry for his family and will continue to pray for them. God Bless and rest peacefully Steve.
