Mr. Sterling Shawn Johnson, 59, of Mount Airy, passed away Sunday night, January 18, 2026, at SECU Hospice Care Center in Yadkinville. Mr. Johnson was born March 4, 1966, in Hampton, VA, one of four children born to Arthur Henry “Art” Johnson, Jr. and Nancy Margaret Thompson Johnson. Sterling was a proud union electrician who dedicated many years to the electrical trade. Known for his strong work ethic, skill, and commitment to safety and craftmanship, he took great pride in his work and in the brotherhood of the union. He is survived by his mother, Nancy Margaret Thompson Johnson of Mount Airy; his sister and brother-in-law, Vanessa and Dr. David Steiner of Aiken, SC; his brother, Kevin Johnson of Mount Airy; his nieces and nephews, Chad Steiner of Aiken, SC, Jeremy Steiner of Fort Myers, FL, Rachel and Major Ryan Shealy of Aiken, SC, and Dr. Alex and Erica Steiner of Columbia, SC; his great-niece and great-nephews, Leo Shealy and Kaleia Shealy, both of Aiken, SC, and Atlas Steiner of Columbia, SC; and his aunt, Audrey “A.J.” Cain of Claudville, VA. Mr. Johnson was preceded in death by his father, Arthur Henry “Art” Johnson, Jr.; and his sister, Tawney Nannette Johnson Bishop. A private funeral service will be held for the family. No formal visitation will be held. The family wishes to express their gratitude for the love and compassion shown by the staff at Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center, the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home, and the SECU Hospice Care Center. Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy is serving the family.
