Rita Gail Southern Cundiff

Mrs. Rita Gail Southern Cundiff, age 71, of Dobson, passed away Monday, March 9, 2026, at Hugh Chatham Hospital. Mrs. Cundiff was born in Yadkin County, on March 30, 1954, to the late Hazel Christine Fulk Southern and James Ralph Southern, Sr. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, who will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Mrs. Cundiff was a longtime home health provider, serving many families in their time of need. Left to cherish her memories are her loving husband of 37 years, Julius Gary Cundiff; daughter, Sandi Dawn Phillips Johnson (Dennis Todd) of Boonville, NC; son, Tony Jeffery Phillips of Dobson, NC; four grandchildren, Rev. Matthew Todd Johnson (Lindsay) of Morganton, NC, Nicholas Hunter Johnson (Katie) of Boonville, NC, Kaili Marie Phillips, of Raleigh, NC, and Abraham Landon Phillips of Salisbury, NC, Jordan Gauge Phillips, Dobson, NC; three great grandchildren, Madison Lynn Phillips, Ryleigh Autumn Phillips, and Sadie Jane Johnson; a brother, James Ralph (Punk) Southern, Jr. and a very special cherished friend, Judy Stanley of Westfield, NC. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Cundiff was preceded in death by a sister, Wanda Diane Southern Hicks; brother, Daniel Ray Southern. A celebration of Mrs. Cundiff’s life will be held on Friday, March 13, 2026, at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy, with the Rev. Matthew Johnson officiating. A burial will follow at Mount Carmel Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday, March 13, 2026, at the funeral home from 1:00 PM until time of the service. In lieu of flowers, the family request that any donations be made to their local church. Moodys of Mount Airy is respectfully serving the Cundiff family.
