Steve Williams Armstrong, age 73, a resident of Columbia, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 9, 2025, at his residence.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, May 12, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Heritage Funeral Home with Tony Phillips and Keith Baker officiating. Burial will follow in Ebenezer Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:00 to 11:00 AM, prior to the service at the funeral home. Military Honors will be provided by the Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
Born on August 8, 1951, in Orlando, Florida, Steve was the son of the late Otis Armstrong and Mirtie Armstrong. He proudly served his country as a United States Marine. A man of many talents and deep compassion, Steve found great joy in fishing, staying active, and most of all, playing guitar and singing—his true passion.
Steve was an evangelist that had a heart for serving others, particularly through his work with the homeless community. Above all, he cherished the time spent with his family and was known as a loving husband, devoted father, caring brother, and proud grandfather. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his loving wife of 13 years, Peggy Armstrong; sons, Steve (Stephanie) Williams Armstrong, Jr. and Bryan (Tasha) Street; daughter, Dorothy Knowles; brother, Alan (Sonya) Armstrong; and grandchildren, Jack Armstrong, Kevin Branch, Junior Street, Devin Street, William Knowles, Ashley Knowles, Riley Armstrong, Ragen Armstrong, and Jack Armstrong.
Pallbearers will be David Williams, Jerry Williams, Charles Douglas Williams, Floyd Williams, Charles Maxwell Williams, and Billy Godsnell. Honorary pallbearers include Wayne Cates, Ronnie Breece, Everette Pewitt, Mike Beard, Billy Simmons, and Travis Warf.
