Steve Bailey Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Freeman Mortuary - Jefferson City on Dec. 10, 2025.
Steven Vincent "Steve" Bailey, age 75, of Jefferson City, Mo., passed away, Sunday, November 7, 2025, at the University Hospital in Columbia, Mo
He was born on January 17, 1950, in Kansas City, Mo., the son of Charles Arnold and Frances Ann (Wilcox) Bailey. He was married on November 12, 1983, in Thomas Hill, Mo., to Gale Elaine Love who survives at their home.
Steve was a 1968 graduate of Moberly High School, and later continued his education in Pampa, Tx. at Frank Phillips Jr. College. Steve then went on to be a brakeman and conductor for the Norfolk Southern Railroad.
Steve lived a life rich with warmth, humor, and genuine connection. He never met a stranger; whether in line at the store, at church, or while traveling, he could talk with someone for minutes or hours, making them feel like an old friend. His ornery streak and love of teasing brought laughter to those around him, and his easygoing charm made him unforgettable. To know Steve was to know a man who lived with a full heart and an open spirit.
A man of many passions, Steve enjoyed the simple pleasures that colored his days. He had a deep love for trains, and his admiration for Airedale dogs was something he carried proudly, reflected in his involvement with the Airedale Terrier Club of America. He appreciated the comfort of old movies and the excitement of sports on TV-especially when cheering for his beloved Kansas City Chiefs and St. Louis Cardinals. Traveling brought him joy, and he cherished memorable trips to places like Hawaii and Estes Park, Colorado, often enjoying these adventures with friends who meant the world to him.
Faith played an important role in Steve's life. As a devoted member of Concord Baptist Church, he found purpose, friendship, and peace within his church family. His compassion, strong values, and willingness to show up for others were reflections of the faith he carried into everyday life.
Above all else, Steve's greatest love was reserved for his family. He was endlessly proud of his children and adored his grandchildren, who brought him immeasurable happiness. His playful spirit, loving guidance, and constant encouragement created memories that will be held close forever. His family was his heart, and they will continue to feel the warmth of his love in every story shared and every moment remembered.
Steve leaves behind a legacy of humor, generosity, and genuine connection. His life was lived honestly and fully, and he'll be remembered with deep respect by all who knew him. May the memory of who he was bring comfort, and may the impact he had on others continue on.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Gale Bailey; children, Lori Craig of Kansas City, Mo., Jeff Bailey (Caitlin) of Columbia, Mo., Adrienne Harper (Robert) of Palmyra, Mo., and Andrew Bailey (Kristie) of Taos, Mo.; brother Mike Bailey (Pat); grandchildren, Kiersten Clark, Kennedy Craig, Ace Harper, Carter Bailey, and Hudson Bailey; and two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Frances Ann Bailey Patton; sister, Christie Hicks; and his step-father, Paul Patton.
A visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Sunday, December 14, 2025, at Freeman Mortuary.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. Monday, December 15, 2025, in the Freeman Chapel with Brother Monte Shinkle officiating. Graveside services and interment will follow at Riverview Cemetery.
Those desiring may make memorial contributions to Tunnel to Towers Foundation, 2361 Hylan Boulevard, State Island, Ny., 10306, or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude’s Place, Memphis, Tn 38105.
