Steve Baugh passed away at home from cancer on October 30, 2025.

Born in Pocatello, Idaho on September 24, 1957, he spent his early years in Idaho, enjoying the great outdoors with his family, parents Rich and Arnetta and siblings Richard, Trina and Brett.

After graduating from High School, his family moved to Casper, Wyoming. From there, he continued his education at BYU and Idaho State University. He graduated with a degree in Linguistics and also began his lifelong quest of exploring clay.

Steve spent a couple of years in Japan teaching English, learning the culture and gaining a keen interest in Japanese art and historic pottery.

On his return home to Casper, Wyoming, he worked for the City of Casper in their Recreation Department, overseeing the city swimming pools and recreation programs.

While attending a recreation leadership conference in the Black Hills of South Dakota, Steve met Ben Stockwell. Ben, who was presenting a workshop in Nature and Crafts, was also a hobby potter and an immediate friendship developed.

Steve and Ben moved to Montana in 1993 and purchased 20 acres west of Wilsall on Muddy Creek. Here they built their home and pottery studio, giving rise to Muddy Creek Pottery. Their pottery business took them to many art and craft shows. It also introduced them to Dano Youth Camp, which they supported by selling wholesale pottery the camp then retailed. This 26 year working relationship supported both Muddy Creek Pottery and Dano Youth Camp.

Through the years, Steve and Ben enjoyed the fellowship of other potters and were always happy to glean information and tips from these friendships.

Steve was loved and appreciated by friends and family far and wide. His desire to be a good friend, his gentle nature and his constant smile will always be remembered.

A memorial service will be held at the Senior Center, Wilsall, on Friday, November 7, at 2:00 pm.
