On Wednesday, May 1, 2024, Steven Courneya, 78, of Frazee, MN, passed away at Essentia, Detroit Lakes. Steve was born to Gerald and Margaret (Bjorge) Courneya on May 15, 1945, in Detroit Lakes, MN.

 

Steve graduated from Frazee High School in 1963. He loved football among other sports. After graduation, Steve joined the Navy and served in Vietnam. He was on an aircraft carrier. After his return from the service, Steve met Carole Lee and they were married in Webster, SD on April 11, 1970.

 

Steve spent his career as a pipeline engineer at Midwestern Gas Transmission. He enjoyed hunting, ice fishing, gardening and farming. Steve's pride and joy was his big, beautiful garden, and he shared the bounty with many. He was known for his knack for fixing things and his love for being outdoors. Steve enjoyed many hours at his red shed, which always had a warm fire going and all visitors were welcome.

 

Steve is survived by his wife, Carole Lee, six children: Liz (Dave); Judy; Tom (Tammy); Jamie (Paul); Nikki (Jimmy); and Heath. Ten grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He is survived by siblings: Judy (Dave); Dennis and Tim (Faye); brothers-in-law, Dennis (Janice) and Bryce; sister-in-law, Carolyn; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

 

He is preceded in death by his parents; son, Casey; sisters Cathy and Julie; and brothers-in-law, Jimmie and Michael.


A private family memorial service will be held for Steve at a later date.
