Steve A. Hartling

This is so unreal for me. I´m now 30 and Mr. Hartling was my 5th grade teacher in elementary school. I had the pleasure of taking my son to camp Schmidt this school year and I ran into him. I´m sure he didn´t remember me but the way he embraced my hug when I ran to him made my night! Mr. Hartling was one of those teachers you just don´t forget. From the dedication he showed to the way he turned completely red when getting upset lol. You will be missed!

My condolences on Steve´s passing. His work at Camp Schmidt made the students´ experiences meaningful. He will be missed.

Steve knew how to connect with students. Kids would run out the door to work with him because he let them do things no other adults would. He gave many of us the gift of his time, care, and knowledge. He built several pollinator gardens on our middle school grounds. Birds, bees, and butterflies are part of our community because of the work Steve did with students. I am grateful to have known Steve. He will always be a light in our lives.

I am so very sorry to hear of Steve's passing. I worked with him for years at Camp Schmidt when I brought my student's each year. I also would run into him when I lived in Calvert Co. He was a dedicated teacher and environmentalist. My thoughts are with his family.

My deepest condolences to the Hartling family. Steve made every trip to Camp Schmit a great one for students and teachers. He touched so many lives in a positive way. You all are in my thoughts.

Melissa, I was so sorry to learn of the passing of Steve. He was always such a pleasure to talk with and see at 231 and at auctions. Of course you know I always had special feeling due to our friendship and of course having Owen as your son and we having the same name. Take care and hope to see you soon. Owen Roberson
