Steve Leathers

Steve Edward Leathers, a cherished father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on September 7, 2024, in Fairmont, West Virginia, at the age of 68. Born on May 15, 1956, in the quaint town of Syria, Virginia, Steve's journey was one marked by love, courage, and a remarkable ability to bring joy to those around him.
Steve was predeceased by his beloved parents, Sarah Elizabeth Weakly and Jessie Leathers. He leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories with his son, Steven Leathers; his adored granddaughter, Emily Hardesty, affectionately known as Tadpole; and his bright-eyed great-granddaughter, Addison Hardesty. Steve was the caring brother to Rose Corbin, Mary Corbin, Larry Leathers, Roger Leathers, Eugene Leathers, Joyce Stanley, and Jackie Whidby, all of whom will miss his gentle presence profoundly.
Steve's early years were spent in the rolling hills of Virginia, where he cultivated a simple yet fulfilling life surrounded by family and nature. He later attended Barber School, a testament to his lifelong love of learning and personal growth. Steve's professional life was defined by his tenure as a Heavy Equipment Operator for the Local Union 77, where he was not only respected for his skill and dedication but also beloved for his camaraderie and warmth.
Those who knew Steve understood that his interests were extensions of his character. He found solace and joy in fishing, feeling a deep connection with the serene waters and the life within them. Steve's loyal dog, Katie, was a constant companion during his cherished walks, where they both enjoyed the simplicity and beauty of nature. His porch was a haven for reflection as he watched the hummingbirds dance in the air, a pastime that brought him immense peace.
Above all, Steve's heart belonged to his family, particularly his granddaughter and great-granddaughter, with whom he spent countless hours creating memories that will be treasured for generations. His love was a guiding force, and his kind and courageous spirit was evident in every laugh shared, every story told, and every quiet moment of support.
Steve was a man of few words, but his actions spoke volumes. He was the embodiment of love and kindness, always willing to lend a hand or offer a word of encouragement. His courage was not the loud and boisterous kind but a quiet, steadfast presence that reassured those around him that everything would be alright.
