STEVE SPENCER Obituary

STEVE SPENCER Steve Spencer passed peacefully on October 11th, surrounded by his loving family. In true Steve fashion, he left this world the way he lived in it: surrounded by people he loved. He leaves behind his beloved wife, Miriam, and eight incredible children: Stevie and Dusty Green, Shane and Quincy Spencer, Lance and Courtney Spencer, and Lakie and Wayne Gunnels. His legacy shines brightest through his ten grandchildren Dalton, Cade, Braxton, and Abrianna Green; Jack and Lane Spencer; Harrison, Laney, and Hallie Spencer; and Krew Gunnels who will forever remember Papa's unending love, endless encouragement, and presence on the sidelines of countless sporting events and activities. Steve is preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Pat Spencer, and is survived by his sister, Angie Spencer, who shared a lifetime of memories, mischief, and love with him. Steve was the kind of person who made life brighter just by walking into the room. He never met a stranger and if you tried to stay one, he didn't let you for long. Known affectionately as the "Mayor of the Town," Steve built a life filled with friends, fun, and an endless supply of stories and life lessons. He embodied the Joy of the Lord and raised his family in church. Miriam and Steve loved teaching toddlers in Sunday school and faithfully served each Sunday for decades. He also found much joy in his career as he served hundreds of families as their financial advisor. Steve, a proud Raytown Bluejay, William Jewell College alumnus, and loyal Sigma Nu, was an unparalleled source of love and joy for those around him. He had a deep love for sports, with a particular passion for youth athletics. He was a strong believer in the power of teamwork, determination, perseverance, and the life lessons that young people acquire on the playing field. He was a lifelong fan of the Chiefs and Royals, and never passed up an opportunity for ice cream, a trip to Hawaii, or a family adventure to Disney. And when it came to Christmas, no one did it bigger or brighter. Services will be held on October 20th, 2025 at 4pm at Pleasant Valley Baptist Church, with a Homecoming Tailgate and fellowship to follow. Guests are encouraged to dress in honor of Steve's favorite things whether that's sports gear, Disney attire, or a classic Hawaiian outfit. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that gifts be made to the Steve Spencer Memorial Fund at Pony Express Bank (Venmo: @Steve-Spencer-Memorial-Fund), established to provide scholarships, continuing his legacy of helping others chase their dreams. Steve Spencer: a man who loved deeply and lived fully. We celebrate the beautiful, joy-filled life he lived and the love he left in every life he touched.
