Steve Statis, 72, of Hamilton Township, NJ, passed away on Friday, October 3, 2025, at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital at Hamilton.
Born in Rhodes, Greece, Steve was a lifelong area resident.
Steve was known for his talent on the soccer field. He was an avid horse racing enthusiast who found great joy in the sport.
Steve secured his certification from the New York School of Dry Cleaning and worked alongside his father John, a tailor, for many years in the Clover Mall, Mercerville, New Jersey. Their outstanding success at that location was founded upon high-quality service and friendly demeanor.
Now those who knew Steve well knew that he was in his element as a people person serving the community along with his family who were long time owners of the renowned Van's Freehold Inn....now South Gate Manor. They were a cornerstone in the community creating a warm welcoming atmosphere and connection to countless people. Beyond delicious meals Van's was the gathering place that fostered friendships and lasting memories. Steve also worked and managed several diners in New Jersey, his last being Flemington Raritan diner.
Predeceased by his parents John and Vasilia Fotinos Statis, he is survived by his fiancé, Mary Ann Spair; his daughter, Vasilia (Vicky) Statis; his sister, Kitsa Manolas, and her husband George; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
Calling hours for family and friends will be held on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, from 9:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m., at St. George Greek Orthodox Church 1200 Klockner Road Hamilton, NJ 08619.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, at 10:00 a.m., at St. George Greek Orthodox Church.
Burial will follow at Fountain Lawn Memorial Park, Ewing Township, NJ.
Arrangements are by the Mather-Hodge Funeral Home 40 Vandeventer Avenue Princeton, NJ 08542.
