Stephen "Steve" Bernard Thompson, 57, of Scott Air Force Base, IL, born on December 31, 1967, in Klamath Falls, OR, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 8, 2025, at Barnes Jewish Hospital, St. Louis, MO.
Serving his country, Steve was a pilot in the United States Air Force for twenty years. Although he was retired, his family called his volunteer work with Scouting America a second career. His pride and joy were the mentor pins that he had received from the Eagle Scouts-having upwards of seven. Steve was considered a renowned Eagle Mentor, keeping the young scouts on their path.
Steve was a charming extrovert, always animated and thriving off his interactions with others. He was a fun-loving guy, enjoying a good wise crack at any time. He was an easy guy to like, love, and talk to. Steve was an independent spirit as much as he was dedicated to the Lord, attending church and reading "Proverb of the Day".
Steve was preceded in death by his parents, Bernard and Carol Thompson (nee Bohley).
Left to cherish Steve's memory are his beloved wife, Holly Thompson (nee Campbell); three children, Joy Thompson, Bradley Thompson, Matthew Thompson; and two sisters, Lynn (Thompson) Lenk and Laura Jean Thompson.
Memorial donations may be made to Cornerstone Christian Church in Belleville, IL, https://www.onecornerstone.org/give. Condolences may be extended to the family online at www.schildknechtfh.com.
A visitation will be held April 16, 2025, from 4:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. at Cornerstone Christian Church; 775 N. Green Mount Road, Belleville, IL 62221.
