Steve Warriner Obituary

Steve E. Warriner
March 18, 1952 - June 29, 2022
Arroyo Grande, California - Steve E. Warriner courageously passed away in Arroyo Grande, CA on June 29, 2022. Steve was born in Norfolk, VA., the son of Ralph Warriner. Steve came to know his chosen parents Evelyn Warriner Boucher and Walter W. Boucher Sr. shortly after his birth. He was raised in Williamsburg, MA., and in Huntington, MA., graduating from Gateway Regional High School.
Steve came to realize his lifelong dream of joining the Army and he served in the 2nd Armored Calvary with the rank of Sergeant 1st Class. He served many tours of duty in the United States, Vietnam, South Korea and Germany. Steve was a trainer in the operation of tanks which at times involved officers from other countries. During his service in Vietnam he received a Purple Heart. Steve was a quiet, very private person, and his family only became aware of this honor during his illness which caused him to be separated from the Army after 15 years of service to his country. Steve dreamed of becoming a member of an armored division in which he could drive a tank. As a young boy he would plan and execute battles in the hills and woods behind his home in Huntington. Dream realized when he became the main gunner on on of the Army's most sophisticated tanks.
Steve met and married his late wife Lilia in the Philippines in 1987. They then returned and lived in Easthampton, MA for a number of years until they fell in love with Arroyo Grande, CA. Steve and Lilia loved going on Long cruises and took many trips to Las Vegas. There favorite pastime together was watching their favorite football team, the Dallas Cowboys.
After retiring from the Army, Steve wrote fictional stories which many times included the names and professions of family members. These short books he sold on Amazon.
Family affectionately referred to him as "Radar" from the tv show M.A.S.H. He liked to refer to himself as "bloody adorable". Steve was a very generous person, and he loved to help people, mostly anonymously. He volunteered his time to help his fellow Veterans deal with their combat experience by listening to them and offering counsel. Steve was never judgmental, he accepted you just as you were.
Steve was preceded in death by his beloved wife Lilia, his beloved daughter Lee, his parents Evelyn and Walter Boucher, his father Ralph Warriner. Steve leaves behind his sister Marilyn Sanger, his brother Walter Boucher and his wife Joyce, plus many nieces, nephews and cousins.
A committal service will be held on August 12, 2022 at 11:00am at the Arroyo Grande Cemetery in Arroyo Grande, CA. Steve will be interred with his beloved wife Lilia.
The family would like to thank everyone who has helped and supported Steve, especially Jeff and Carol Trueblood, Mercy, Paul and Liz Ford and their children, and the Mission View Health Center.
Memorial Donations may be made to the Disabled American Veterans.
