Steve Wilcox Obituary

STEVE WILCOX George S. Wilcox, known to his family and friends as "Steve" or "Gabby", age 75, of Goessel, Kansas, passed away Thursday, June 5, 2025, at the Ascension via Christi St. Francis Hospital in Wichita. He was born on September 10, 1949, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to Gerald Steven and Thelma Jo (Alexander) Wilcox. He graduated from Del City High School in Del City, Oklahoma with the class of 1968. Steve served in the United States Marine Corps from 1968 to 1970, serving in the Vietnam War. He worked as a finish carpenter for 35 years for his family's business, Jerry & Son's Carpentry in Del City. Steve was united in marriage to Debra Jean Fry on January 15, 1971, in Midwest City, Oklahoma. He was the longest member of the Vietnam Vets Motorcycle Club in Kansas and he also served as the Chapter and Regional President in the early 90's. Steve enjoyed listening to music, watching M.A.S.H. and loved to party hard. He lived hard and rode free. Steve was PROUD to be an American. Above all, he loved his family and many referred to him as Papa. Steve is survived by his wife of over 54 years, Debbie Wilcox of Goessel; children, Rebecca Wilcox of Hutchinson, Jeri (Chris) Strecker of Newton, Samuel (Kelsey) Wilcox and Weatherford, OK, and Robin Wilcox of Goessel; one sister, Sheryl (Dennis) Borg of Del City, OK; twelve grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren, plus one on the way. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Edward Wilcox; and brothers, Jimmy Don Wilcox and Ricky Joe Wilcox. The family will greet friends from 3 to 6 p.m., Wednesday, June 11, 2025, at the Miller-Ott Funeral Home, Goessel. Cremation will follow with a private celebration of life service to be held later. Memorial contributions may be made to the National League of POW/MIA Families in care of Miller-Ott Funeral Home, PO Box 96, Goessel, KS 67053.
