Steven Ray Basgall was born on May 18, 1955, in Cheyenne Wells, Colorado to Hubert and Vonna Basgall. He died August 17th at the Hays Medical Center in Hays, Kansas at the age of 69.
He was raised in Sharon Springs, Kansas along with 4 brothers and 3 sisters.
Steve attended Wallace County Schools K-12. He graduated from Fort Hays State University. During his college years, he began working for UPS. He continued his career with UPS for 40 years.
Steve enjoyed life. He especially enjoyed his Harleys and motorcycle trips with his brother’s motorcycle club. He also found joy in reading, hunting, fishing, scuba diving, sailing, playing disc golf, spending time playing his guitars, and vacationing at the beach. He loved traveling to new places and meeting new people. He was adept at rebuilding motorcycles and working on everything. He could fix most of the things that Barbara-Jean and Ashton could break. Spending time with family and friends was a special time for Steve. He had a soft spot for all his nieces and nephews and all children. He had a servant’s heart. He was always there to help others and treated everyone with kindness. Steve had an unwavering trust in God.
He is preceded in death by his son, Jarett Ray Basgall, his father, Hubert Basgall, and brother, Randy Basgall.
He is survived by mother, Vonna Basgall, Sharon Springs, Ks., significant other, Barbara-Jean Ottley and her daughter, Ashton Ottley, Hays, Ks., siblings, Sherry Frasier and Curt, Beloit, Ks., Barry Basgall and Cheryl, Broken Arrow, Ok., Marla Turner and John, Jacksonville, Fl., Janet Ruder and Vincent, Kemah, Tx., Don Basgall and JoAnna, Sharon Springs, Ks., and Kent Basgall and Susan, Shawnee, Ks. He is also survived by 10 nieces and nephews,16 great-nieces and nephews and 5 great-great nieces and nephews and many more family and friends.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday August 24, 2024, at 10:00 AM at St Joseph Catholic Church, 215 West 13th Hays, Kansas 67601. The family will receive friends and guests from 9:00 AM until service time at the church. Memorial Visitation will be Friday August 23, 2024, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM with a combined Rosary and Parish Vigil service at 7:00 PM at Keithley Funeral Homes and Crematory - Brock's Chapel 2509 Vine Street Hays, Kansas 67601.
