Steven Charles Berk, a man of unwavering determination and boundless kindness, passed away at his home on April 18, 2024, at the age of 74. Born on February 7, 1950, in Baltimore, Maryland, he was the cherished son of Norman George Berk and Lillian (Reamer). At the age of 10, Steve and his family relocated to Moose Junction, Wyoming, where the rugged landscape would shape his adventurous spirit.
In his youth, Steve's dedication and work ethic were evident as he committed himself to the Forest Service during high school and part of his twenties. Following that, he worked for several oil drilling companies, learning several different trades. He loved the travelling aspect of the job and all the adventures that came with it. This eventually led him to Worland, Wyoming. After helping build Crowne Cork and Seal, he decided to come and work for them. It was during this time that he forged enduring relationships, both personal and professional.
In the mid-1980s, Steve's life took a significant turn when he exchanged vows with Judy Middleton. Their union blessed them with a daughter, Amber Berk, who became the light of Steven's life. Despite later parting ways, the bond of family remained steadfast.
Destiny intervened in 1996 when Steve crossed paths with Jeanette, a fateful encounter at Subway that would change the course of his life forever. Their love story was one of chance, with Jeanette's subtle yet bold proposal on the subway billboard, a gesture that captured Steve's heart. Their marriage grew into a profound partnership that lasted until his last breath.
Tragically, Steve's vibrant spirit was challenged by illness in the early 2000s, as he battled West Nile virus and Rheumatoid Arthritis, eventually leading to his retirement. Despite these adversities, his resilience remained unyielding. Steve found solace in his passion for tinkering, earning a reputation as a modern-day MacGyver, adept at fixing anything that crossed his path. His green thumb flourished in his beloved garden, yielding the sweetest cherry tomatoes in the region.
Steve's legacy extended far beyond his professional achievements, as he poured his heart into nurturing his blended family, including his daughter, Amber and stepchildren, Ireane, Carl, Eric, and LaShauna. He crafted a haven of joy for them, from a homemade go-kart track to a whimsical tree fort where dreams came to life on summer afternoons.
Steve had an innate ability to connect with others, leaving a lasting mark on all who had the privilege of knowing him. He leaves behind a legacy of love, resilience, and boundless generosity that will continue to inspire those who follow in his footsteps.
Steve was preceded in death by his parents and son, Steven Dallas Berk and grandson Logan Daniel Kellogg.
He is survived by his loving wife, Jeanette; sister, Patti (Ashley) Powell of Riverton, Wyoming daughter, Amber (Joshua) Bear of Worland; stepchildren, Ireane Kellogg of Worland, Carl Kellogg of Michigan, Eric Kellogg of Worland, LaShauna Kellogg of Worland and 13 grandchildren.
A celebration of life will be held at 1:00 PM, Thursday, April 25, 2024, at the Bryant Funeral Home Chapel with Keith VanBrunt officiating.
