Steven Bisbee Obituary

Steven James Bisbee

July 22, 1975 - May 28, 2024

Boalsburg, Pennsylvania - Steven James Bisbee, 48, of Boalsburg, died Tuesday, May 28, 2024. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him.

Steve was born July 22, 1975 at Evangelical Community Hospital in Lewisburg to Frederick and Eleanor Bisbee and grew up on Hideaway Farm near Selinsgrove with his sister Sarah and brothers David and Daniel.

Steve married Tara on February 14, 2010, and they have been blessed by the joy of three beautiful children: son McVey, and daughters Milan and Madrid.

Steve graduated from Selinsgrove Area High School in 1993, where he excelled in academics, athletics, and extracurricular activities. He earned his Eagle Scout award with Troop 419 and was active with his family as members of Wesley United Methodist Church.

Attending the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, Steve earned his bachelor's degree in 1997 and was a Distinguished Military Graduate of his Army ROTC unit, earning his commission as an Armor officer. Assigned to the First Cavalry Division, he commanded an M1A2 Abrams tank platoon and deployed on peacekeeping missions in support of NATO operations in both Bosnia-Herzegovina and Kosovo.

Following his military service, Steve worked for several years on contract to the Pentagon before moving to State College to earn his MBA at Penn State's Smeal College of Business in 2006. Steve's passion for business and his entrepreneurial drive saw him engaged in a variety of endeavors before he decided to pursue his dream of launching Hideaway Ventures, a real estate company focused on acquisitions, development, and property management in the Happy Valley area.

Steve led an incredibly busy life, working to balance the challenges of running a business, caring for Tara and their children, serving as an adjunct instructor at the Smeal College, mentoring future real estate professionals, and engaging in civic service projects. He cared deeply about his community and constantly sought ways to make it a better place to live.

His son Mac will remember him for his dedication as a flag football coach, Milan loved taking family trips with him to the beach, and Madrid will miss her Daddy's bedtime stories. The family shared a commitment to their faith with the State College Access Church community.

Steve is survived by his wife Tara and their children McVey, Milan, and Madrid; his father Frederick; his mother-in-law Beverly Warren; Sarah and John and nephew Chase; David and Marsha and nieces Olivia and Lilian; and Dan. Steve joins his mother Eleanor and nephew Cameron.

Visitation will be from 9:30 until 11:00 a.m. on Friday, June 7, 2024 at the State College Access Church, 3601 South Atherton Street, State College. A memorial service will follow at 11 a.m. with Pastor Zac McDonald officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Bisbee Family Memorial at the State College Access Church www.scaccesschurch.com/program.

Sending my deepest sympathy to the Bisbee family. I truly enjoyed working with Steve through my alumni involvement with the PSU real estate program. My son also worked for Steve in the summer of 2022 and took his class. We are both so sorry for his loss. He was a wonderful teacher and mentor to the students, and he was a great colleague to me and to those affiliated with the program. He will be greatly missed. Sending peace to all of you.

Steve--you were the best teacher at Penn State. You elevated our program by providing students with phenomenal education on real estate investment. I've always said that your hire is my largest contribution to the college. Your influence is so strong that it will remain in your students, colleagues, and our program for years to come. My condolences to the Bisbee family.

My deepest condolences to the whole Bisbee family. My thoughts and prayers are with you. Although, I unfortunately haven´t talked to Steve for many years ( last time we were talking about SFOR and Bosnia deployments) , I actually have been talking about him to my kids recently , any time we pass by the big Red Barn on Rt 204. I tell them about the fun memories of friends getting together for bonfires there over thanksgiving/winter breaks when we were home from college, and many other funny stories from high school. I am sure he will be greatly missed by so many people whose lives he has touched in so many different areas and phases of his amazing life, and I know he will live on in many fond memories.

Tara, deepest condolences from the Thorsen family. I first met Steve when he was an MBA student working with S&A Homes. I was immediately struck by his energy. I saw him a few months ago near the business building on campus and I shared with Becca that he appeared to have, somehow, not aged over the last fifteen years. I am so sorry to hear of his passing.

The entire Bisbee family has been a gift for me since I was an early teen. They welcomed me as another kid right from the beginning, and Steven rolled right in as a little brother should. Tagging along, joining in, picking on and hugging, just a small explosion of laughter and energy.
Nerf horseball, saucer sleds and joy will always come to mind with his memory. Love and deepest sympathy to his family.
