I just saw the post that Steve had passed away a few days ago and I wanted to express my condolences to the family. In addition to basketball and football Steve played baseball and he was an amazing fastball pitcher. I was catching for him and it was his arm and bat that took us to the sub-state round in 1962. We had great fun as I think we were the only two seniors on the team. We saw each other sparingly at reunions but it was always good to visit.

I remember meeting Steve when I was just a little girl, I believe Sarah was a newborn. I met him in Oelwein. My parents became great friends with him and your mom, when they had the greenhouse. More importantly, Steve had the same passions of hunting and trout fishing as my folks did. I remember Steve and dad hunting and fishing like it was yesterday. Steve would always hurry and get to what he thought was the best fishing spot. There are so many hunting adventures I can remember, also. Like when they would come home from hunting and the trunk would be full of geese, pheasant, rabbits, or ducks. They were the best hunters! The friendship the 3 of them had was the best! There was always something to talk and laugh about, whether it be about plants, the kids, grandkids, or something on the news. It meant a lot to my mom for her and Steve to carry on their friendship and traditions, even after my dad passed. It was difficult for them both; however, their friendship and traditions remained very important to them both. Was always great to see Steve when we´d get together for birthday parties or whatever was going on with our family. My husband and I truly considered Steve as a member of our family and it was our pleasure to have had him in our life. I´m really going to miss Steve. He was a very good person and man.
