Steven J. Conklin

Steven John Conklin, 60, of Wappingers Falls, who formerly resided in his home in Fishkill, and who grew up in Lake Peekskill, passed from this life on July 19, 2015. He is survived by his wife, Elissa Hadley Conklin, and their two sons, Terrence Richard Conklin and Kenneth Hadley Conklin; his two brothers, David Conklin and Rocco Conklin; and his companion, Linda Casey. He lost his beloved mother, Katherine Marafioti Conklin, early in his twenties, but he is survived by her four sisters, Joanne Leader, Josephine Cavaliere, Angela Manzo and Mary Ann Wansor; and an extended family of close cousins. He was also proud of his Native American Indian heritage, whose ancestry came through his father, Virgil Conklin, also deceased. Steven made his living as a union carpenter for the Tarrytown Local 149. After many years of industrial work, he began his own business in residential construction. He was a man gifted with a love of nature, was an avid and knowledgeable fly fisherman, and a hunter skilled with the bow, as well as guns. As a younger man, he worked in stables where he boarded his own horse. Steven was an all-around sportsman, dart champion (his passion), and he coached his sons and other youngsters in Little League. He played guitar in several bands in the seventies and has passed his appreciation for rock and roll music and talent to his sons. At one time he was an active member and sexton of Fishkill United Methodist Church. He was later involved with the Wappingers Falls United Methodist Church. His easy temperament and universal likability has left a community of grieving relatives and friends. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 29, 2015 from 11 am to 12 noon at Straub, Catalano & Halvey Funeral Home, 55 E. Main Street, Wappingers Falls, NY 12590.
