CHESAPEAKE, VA - On Thursday, December 25, 2025, Mr. Steven Edward Cox, 69, left his earthly home to live with his heavenly Father.
Steve was born on October 21, 1956, in San Diego, CA to the late Harley Edward Cox and the late Naomi Dolan Cox. He was the oldest of 7 children.
Steve enjoyed the simple things in life, always buying scratch-off tickets, hoping for the big win. His favorite pastime was taking road trips, going to most any place to see what he could discover.
Steve retired from Chesapeake Industrial Repair in Chesapeake, VA.
Those he leaves behind to cherish his memory are his step-mother, Lois Short-Cox of Wadesboro; his sister, Laurie Cox Lynch of Henrico, VA; his brother, Matthew A. Cox of Huntsville, AL; his sister-in-law, Laura M. Cox of South Bend, IN; his close friend, Brian Wheeler (Teresa) of Elizabeth City; 11 nieces and nephews, and 15 great-nieces and great-nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Karen Cox Bethea, his brother, James "Danny" Cox, his brother-in-law, Cory Lynch, infant brothers, Michael and Patrick Cox, and nephew, Harley "Peewee" Bethea.
There will be a memorial service by the graveside at 12:00 PM, Saturday, February 21, 2026, at Sandy Plains Christian Fellowship Church Cemetery, formerly, Sandy Plains United Methodist Church, Cason Old Field Rd., Morven. The Rev. Yvonne Hechler and the Rev. Lonnie Grose will officiate.
Visitation will be on Friday, February 20, 2026, from 5:30 PM until 7:30 PM at the home of his step-mother, Lois Cox in Wadesboro.
In lieu, of flowers, memorial contributions to assist with funeral expenses may be made to Lois Cox, 101 Melodie Dr., Wadesboro, NC 28170.
