LANCASTER – Steven Davis, age 71, of Lancaster, passed away on Wednesday, March 8, 2023, at Upland Hills Health in Dodgeville. He was born on July 21, 1951, in Rockford, IL the son of Eldon and Leona (Giovinco) Davis. Steve attended school in Rockford. He worked several construction jobs and in 1987, began employment with Local 792 out of Rockford, working as a Millwright and also served on the board and was a delegate of the Chicago Regional Council. Steve was also employed as a union carpenter in Milwaukee. He moved to Wisconsin in the late 1980’s. On September 10, 1993, Steve was united in marriage to Karin Castillo in Las Vegas, NV. He was known to many as “Woodtick”. Steve loved being outdoors operating the sawmill, farming, and working with his hands. He was a man like none other. Steve was larger than life with amazing stories every time you met him. He was strong, stubborn, and sharp as a tack. He was also fiercely loyal and took care of everyone around him. His laugh was infectious. The work he did on the farmhouse was nothing short of remarkable. He would work from sun-up to sun-down. Steve was a stranger to no one and feared nothing. He will be greatly missed.

Survivors include his loving wife, Karin; his daughter, Jennifer Davis; a grandson, Luke Hoffman; his siblings: Diane Schuelke, Mike (Dee) Davis, and Fred Halsted, Jr.; father-in-law, Genaro Castillo; in-laws: Ramona (John) Mindiola, Mark (Sandra) Castillo, Jennifer Castillo, Sarah (Jeff) Castillo, Jason Castillo; numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

Steve was preceded in death by his parents, Eldon and Leona Davis and Fred Halsted, Sr., his mother-in-law, Ruth (Tyler) Castillo and his beloved dog, Frankie.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, March 18, 2023, from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. at Martin Schwartz Funeral Home & Crematory, 1234 S Madison St., Lancaster.

The family would like to thank the nurses at Upland Hills Health that cared for Steve in his final days. Their care and compassion will never be forgotten.
