Steven William Degner, at the age of 55, ran into the arms of Jesus, who welcomed him Home. With unwavering faith, Steve fought his battle until his body could no longer fight and Jesus called his name.
Beloved husband of Marquerite Degner; cherished brother of Christine and James Casterson, Mark and Linda Degner, Deborah and Glenn Klumb, Jennifer and Michael Graf, Laura and Brad Patterson, Suzanne and John Denecke, Daniel and Julie Degner, and Jeffrey and Angie Degner; treasured godfather to Chad Amos, Michael, Joseph, Jenna, Samantha, Karac, and Peronne. He is further loved and missed by many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and friends. He is praising God in glory with his parents, Robert and Gloria Degner, and other loved ones who moved Home before him.
Steve was born in Menomonee Falls, WI, and lived there most of his life. In 2007, he married the love of his life, his "wiffy," Markie. Together, they built a rich life of love, adventure, laughter, grace, community, and compassion. They enjoyed traveling, scuba diving, rafting, snowshoeing, and anything that kept them in the great outdoors. They also loved being at home, caring for their bunny Boo and entertaining family and friends. Their favorite place to be was anywhere together. Their bond was strong, beautiful, selfless, and blessed by God. They completed each other.
To know Steve is to know his passions - bunnies, photography, great coffee, fishing, engineering, cars, music, but most importantly, people. He would appear at a moment's notice with a screwdriver, a quart of oil, a photo, a musical riff, a laugh, a hug, or the perfect words of Scripture, prayer, and encouragement. Conversations were authentic and faith-filled.
Steve's work as an engineer began at Pillar and continued at GFG/Gencoat, where he received a patent for a coupling he designed. The last years of his work life were at Faustel, where he was valued for all he brought to the company and supported in his fight. His loved ones are grateful for the wonderful, Christian team at Faustel.
Steve loved cars. His passion for fine automobiles began with hot wheels, matchbox cars, and his "which-a-way." His father taught him his way around a vehicle, and they could often be found in the garage together. Grabbed by the roar of engines and gleaming paint, Steve designed, custom painted, and built several amazing cars. He attended countless races and swap meets with his brothers, relatives, and friends.
Music was a huge part of Steve's life. He attended many concerts with family and friends, kept every ticket stub, and had recordings of many shows. His favorite band remains Led Zeppelin. Steve learned to play the guitar, and it was something special to witness him play guitar - acoustic, electric, or air.
Steve was involved in Bible study groups, served at his church in different capacities, and lived out his faith in his Savior in all he did. His life was marked by humility, honesty, integrity, compassion, mercy, grace, strong faith, and deep love. His journey on this earth was too short for those who remain here, but he is free from pain. His legacy will live on, reminding us to share Christ's love and mercy with everyone.
A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, July 11, 2026.

Blessed is the man who remains steadfast under trial, for when he has stood the test he will receive the crown of life, which God has promised to those who love Him.
