Steven Allen Fields, born on August 13, 1969, in Logan, West Virginia, passed away on January 29, 2025.
Steven was a devoted husband to Tammy (Baxter) Fields and a loving father to his sons Justin Baxter and Paul Fields, and his stepdaughter Anna Browning. He found immense joy in being “Papaw” to his cherished grandchildren Dominic Baxter, Gracie Fields, and Éloïse Christiaen-Browning, and was over the moon about the impending arrival of another granddaughter, Stephanie Fields (named in his honor).
He was the beloved son of Brenda Smith Fields and Robert “Bob” (Debbie) Fields Sr., and a caring brother to Angela “Angee” Fields and Melissa “Missy” Fields (his lifelong friend Mike George), as well as his step-sister Brandie (Ralph) Davis-Perry. He held a special place in his heart for his nieces and nephews — Salena (Brandon) Robinette, Molly Runyon (Rob Ballentine), Robert “Bobby” Fields III, and Derek Fields — and his great-niece and great-nephew, Brayden Robinette and Sydni Ballentine. He also cherished his Aunt Merry Smith and his cousins Dale and Emma Smith, along with many other dear cousins, aunts, uncles, coworkers, and friends.
Steven was preceded in death by his brother Robert Fields Jr., nephew Kyle Scott Fields, uncle Darrell Smith, maternal grandfather Ballard Smith, and paternal grandparents Mearle Fields and Molly (Spaulding) Fields.
A hardworking man with an unwavering work ethic, Steven dedicated his career to operating heavy machinery in the coal mining industry. His steadfastness at work mirrored the commitment he brought to all aspects of his life.
Those who knew Steven will remember him as a husband, father, papaw, son, brother, uncle, and friend — a man who deeply valued family above all else. His warmth and sense of humor left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him. Steven’s memory will live on through the love he shared with family and friends.
