Attleboro – Steven D. Fortier, 28, passed away on Saturday, March 12, 2022, after a tragic snowmobiling accident in Maine. Born in St. Petersburg, Florida, he was the beloved son of the late Doreen M. Fortier. He leaves his grandparents, Gerald J. and Virginia A. Fortier with whom he made his home in Attleboro, Massachusetts; uncles and aunts, William J. Fortier and his wife, Carolyn, of Cumberland, Rhode Island, David M. Fortier and his wife, Kim, of Norton, Massachusetts and Gary S. Fortier and his wife, Sarah, of Marietta, Georgia; cousins, Gregory, Alison, Ashley, Joshua, Madeline and Abigail Fortier.
Steven was a graduate of Foxborough Regional Charter School before receiving a bachelor's degree in Computer Science in 2015 from Wentworth Institute of Technology, Boston, MA. He was a software developer for MEDITECH for the past five and a half years, where his co-workers valued and respected him as a team player who was always willing to help in whatever way he could.
While to outsiders, Steven may have appeared introverted, those who knew him were blessed to see the truth; Steven was a selfless and giving member of his family who was often caught fighting back a laugh as he adeptly observed those around him.
His compassionate nature carried beyond those he knew when, in 2014, he successfully underwent the procedure to donate his bone marrow to a patient with leukemia through the Be A Match Foundation. A registered organ and tissue donor, Steven's selflessness continued even after his passing.
His first love was always computers and technology, and it encompassed many disciplines, even down to the tiniest details. He spent a great deal of time researching and building his home computer, one component at a time. This ongoing project led to his building multiple computers.
Steven also enjoyed virtual reality, setting aside a room in his home for game play - much to the amusement of his friends and family. This immersive gaming sparked close friendships with people he met from all over the country and beyond. He also participated online in more traditional RPGs including Dungeons and Dragons, and enjoyed tinkering with 3D printing.
Additionally, Steven was a frequent attendee of video game conventions including PAX (in both Boston & Seattle), where he helped organize a fan-run event known as Pokecrawl, a charity fundraiser where patrons participate in a local bar crawl.
He had a voracious appetite for finding new hobbies and interests, and would spend hours upon hours researching before making a purchase. One such learning excursion brought him to his interest in Formula 1 racing; following the drivers, teams and industry in tremendous detail throughout each season.
Steven will be remembered as someone who loved his family and friends, was selfless and giving, enjoyed his work and hobbies, and cherished his time each summer vacationing with his family at Newfound Lake in New Hampshire.
Steven's funeral will be held on Saturday at 8 a.m. from WILLIAM W. TRIPP Funeral Home, ; followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9 a.m. in Our Lady Queen of Martyrs Church, Coyle Drive, Seekonk, MA. VISITATION will be Friday 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.
