Steven Hernandez Obituary
He is preceded in death by his mother, Betty Lou Hernandez; father- and mother-in-law, Juan and Lupe Maldonado; and grandparents, Vicente and Maria Hernandez, and Albert and Elva Aranda.
He is survived by his loving wife of 17 years, Amanda Maldonado Hernandez; son, Adrian Rene Maldonado; father, David E. Hernandez; brothers, Carl David Hernandez and spouse Connie, and Jerry Hernandez; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Steven was raised in San Marcos, Texas, and graduated from San Marcos High School in 1982, where he was a member of the Varsity Baseball team. He was employed for 28 years by the Texas Department of Public Safety. Throughout his life, he played softball, loved to play golf, served as an umpire and scorekeeper, and worked sporting events as an usher at the University of Texas Erwin Center. He enjoyed watching sports and was a devoted fan of the Texas Longhorns, Dallas Cowboys, and New York Yankees.
Steven was a loving husband and father. He was known for his kindness, big smile, sense of humor, and for being a special co-worker and friend.
The Hernandez family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to the doctors, nurses, and staff of the ICU wing at Dell Seton Medical Center at the University of Texas for their kindness and care of Steven.
Viewing will be held at St. John's the Evangelist Catholic Church in San Marcos, Texas, at 6:00 PM on Tuesday, March 24, 2026, with a rosary at 7:00 PM. Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, March 25, 2026, also at St. John's the Evangelist Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Memory Lawn Memorial Park located on Hwy. 80. May 19, 1964 - March 16, 2026
