To Steve's family...Angie, Joe, and those who most recently loved him dearly, Janelle...I am so very, very sorry for your loss. Steve held a special place in my heart. He was my mentor and colleague when I was a principal in Elizabethtown, but more than that, he was a friend I could call on at any time. He was our morale builder in that school system. He was the "morning wit" guy, sending the funny jokes in the email each day to cheer us up. Steve was also my spiritual mentor and accountability partner. We prayed for each other's family's and for the many trials we often faced. I recently told a friend, Steve would walk through fire for me, yet I didn't even get to say, "Good bye" to him because I was out of state at the time of his funeral. Somehow, I know that if he knew this, he would smile that Steve Houser smile, and say, "it's ok. You were sharing some of the things I taught you while serving the Lord." We'll miss you, my friend. Say Hello to Jesus. I know you're standing next to him, good and faithful servant.

As others stated so well, Dr Houser was a great teacher, gentleman, scholar, omnipresent friendly personality, athletic/ academic coach, and a precious resource for the AC School District. In his brief life he affected so many positively. His untimely passing was a tremendous loss for his family, the AC community, and central PA. I was touched to see Mother Teresa's poem "Anyways" among the tributes at his Lebanon Valley College memorial (Jan 15 2016). My deepest sympathy. --- Yours, Katherine Murray Leisure, MD, (past ACSD School Board Director, past Pennsylvania School Boards Assocn), Plymouth, MA. USA. February, 2016.

As a special education teacher in Susquehanna Township, I had the pleasure of working with Dr. Houser. Every time he was in our building he would stop in to my classroom to see if there was anything he could do for my kids. He even jumped in and helped me teach a few times when he was there. He was a dedicated and kind-hearted man. He will be sadly missed. My sympathy to his family.

I am so sorry for your loss, Angie, Joe and the Houser family. I worked with your dad at Elizabethtown and can say, he certainly helped to mold me into the administrator I am today. He always shared stories of you both and the love he had for his family was evident in all that he did. Steve always saw the good in everyone. He will be missed by many.

My deepest sympathies to the entire Houser family. I cannot imagine a world without Steve's kind, considerate, caring persona. He cared so much for his family, his students, the administration team, the staff, and the Annville-Cleona community. He wanted to provide a better future for everyone. His shining example made all of us stronger, kinder people. He will be missed but I know that we are all better for having had a brief moment of Steve's life. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you.

My deepest condolences to the Houser family. I was one of the fortunate kids to have him as my sixth grade teacher. I met him during his first year at Henry Houck when he was tutoring after school. I fell ill during my fifth grade year and he came to my home at the request of the school and my parents to keep me up to date on my studies until I could return to school. I remember his kind words and concern for my studies. He was a fantastic teacher and a great man. I will never forget what he had done for me.

My heart goes out to Dr. Houser's family and AC students. I was fortunate to have him as my 6th grade teacher at Henry Houck elementary and overjoyed when he joined ACSD. He always greeted me by name and a hug, I'm glad my own children got to see his example of genuine care and compassion for his student body. He was always very visible within the school district, which I can't say I ever recall that of a superintendent, whether it was sporting events, concerts or open houses, he was there. He will be greatly missed. Those who knew him were very fortunate.

My husband and I are deeply grieved at Steve's passing. We were fortunate to have met him at various LVC events and were impressed with his friendliness. I think Steve epitomized the trait of humility. How sad that he is gone, but his legacy and his influence will live forever in the hearts of those lucky enough to have met him and interacted with him.

We are deeply saddened by the loss of Steve. He had a passion to provide a quality education for all students in Lebanon County and often shared about how he loved his own family as well. He will be greatly missed and never forgotten for all the good works he has done. GOD's grace and peace be with the family now and in the future. May GOD bless you and remind you always of the many lives Steve had touched and may you be comforted in the thoughts of knowing he lived out his life serving others.

There are no words to describe the feelings of loss, the sadness, the tragedy of Steve's passing. He was the most amazing man! When I recently told a colleague of mine who had also worked closely with Steve that he had died, she responded so appropriately with, "Wait ... what? Steve Houser ... the nicest man in the world?" "Yes," I said, "THAT Steve Houser ... the kindest man in the world." And she began to cry. All who knew him are grieving terribly. I, for one, will never forget him. He was gracious beyond words and fun beyond compare. Fly free, sweet Steve. See you again, my friend! Miss you already and love you forever!

I was so sorry to learn of the passing of Dr. Houser. In one of our discussions, related to student achievement, he offered a quote from Neil Postman that noted "children are the messages we send to a future that we will never see." Steve was an exemplary messenger in guiding the lives of so many children into that future.
