Steven “Steve” Douglas Jones, 60, died on October 24, 2024.
Born in Athens, GA, he was the son of Clifford Carter Jones and Effie Mae Hawkes Jones. Steve was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents: Sherman B. Hawkes and Gladys Murray Hawkes and paternal grandparents: Emory Otis Jones and Winona Duncan Jones. Steve began his law enforcement career with the Clarke County Sheriffs Office in 1992 and retired from the Oglethorpe County Sheriffs Office in 2022. He was a member of Grove Chapel Church.
Survivors in addition to his wife, Judy Ann Jones, and parents include one daughter; Melissa Ann (Benjamin) Paul; sister: Tammy (John) Jones; granddaughter: Amelia Jacquelyn Paul; Mother-in-Law: Verita Hall; nephews: Matthew (Sara) Jones and Andrew Jones and great niece: Grace Jones.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, October 27, 2024 at 2PM at Lord and Stephens East Chapel. The family will receive friends from 12:00PM until 2:00PM prior to the service. Interment will follow at Grove Chapel Church.
