Steve was my friend since I was 8 years old and just moved to Ottawa. He was thoughtful, caring and a true original. He was an active, interested and deeply involved person. He could, and would, discuss any number of topics or ideas, and helped me often to understand different points of view. We traveled as young men to several places and he helped shape my view of the world. I always came away from conversations with Steve feeling more energized and informed, whether I agreed with him or not. It will be a large void to not have his counsel and I will miss him tremendously. Condolences to the Lay family and all of us who knew and loved him. Cheers to our friend Steve
