Ishpeming, MI - Steven L. Luokkala, Jr., age 26, affectionately known has "Bud", "Skippy", or "Uncle Ginger" to family members was pronounced dead on Wednesday January 17, 2024, at his home in Ishpeming, while in the loving arms of his girlfriend Oralia Fortin, who had also passed.
Steven was born in Ishpeming on February 22, 1997, a son of Steven L. Luokkala, Sr. and Tamarra Larson. Steven grew up in Ishpeming and was a graduate of the Ishpeming High School, Class of 2016. Steve worked as an installer of metal roofs for Dan Perkins Construction, Inc. for several years. Steven will be remembered for his warm smile and willingness to lend a helping hand. He had a passion for music and enjoyed attending the Rock USA concerts, along with time spent outdoors.
Steven is survived by his parents Steven L. and Wendy Luokkala Sr. of Ishpeming, Tamarra Larson of Appleton, WI, three sisters, Rachel Luokkala, Heather Quayle and Amanda Baumler, two brothers, Jesse Homa and Eric Lawer, aunt and uncles, David Luokkala, Larry and Kelly Luokkala, several great aunts and uncles including a special great aunt Nancy Kennedy, along with numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his grandparents - Carol and Paul Luokkala, Donna Countyman and Arthur Larson, aunts - Denise and Dixie Luokkala, cousin Carol Jean Luokkala and an infant cousin David Paul Luokkala.
A time to celebrate Steven's life will be held from 4:00 – 6:00PM on Friday, January 26, 2024, at Bjork & Zhulkie Funeral Home in Ishpeming. A reception will follow at the Ishpeming Twp. Hall from 6:00 – 8:00PM.
In lieu of flowers and due to Steven's love of animals, memorials may be directed to UPAWS, online at upaws.org or 815 S. M-553, Gwinn, MI 49841.
