Steven Major, age 66, beloved husband, father, son, doctor, and friend, passed peacefully in his sleep on Friday, December 19th 2025. Born in
Elmhurst, Illinois, to Orland and Marjorie Major, Steve lived a life defined by hard work, perseverance, integrity and love.
Dr. Major attended National College of Chiropractic earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Human Biology and a Doctorate in Chiropractic in 1988. He established a private practice in February of 1989 in
Carol Stream, Illinois and worked throughout the western suburbs for more than three decades.
Steve was deeply dedicated to his work and was a voracious reader and researcher. He spent a lot of his time thinking outside the box of modern medicine, always learning and striving to stay at the forefront of new practices and techniques. He found immense fulfillment in the many certifications and professional achievements he earned over the course of his career.
His practice extended well beyond chiropractic care. Steve had a love for sports science, fostering relationships with youth athletes across Chicagoland, most notably including his tenure as a volunteer Sprints Coach for Wheaton North High School from 2006-2014. Giving back to young athletes was always important to the doctor and coach, and he spent a lot of his time mentoring and developing young athletes to help them reach their highest potential and recover from injury as quickly as possible.
Steve's passion for helping athletes wasn't just limited to recent years, it spanned across his entire life. In 1994, he served as the U.S. Team Chiropractor for the World Series of Volleyball in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. He was a team member and acting chiropractor for the Pepsi/Schwinn cycling team and competed with the USA Bobsled Federation from 1981-83. In the early 00's, he even spent time adventure racing, qualifying for an 11 day Eco-Challenge in Borneo, Malaysia.
Outside of work, Steve loved to be active himself. He enjoyed cycling, weight training and kayaking. Occasionally, he even enjoyed a deer hunt. He often shared that time spent "up in his tree" during hunts was among his most peaceful and meditative moments.
Above all else, Steve's greatest passion was his family. He was a devoted father to his three children, whom he loved deeply. Steve and Lin Vonsaga met, started dating and inevitably wed in February of 2016. From their union, Steve's family grew, gaining two new stepchildren. He talked often about how getting the family together was what he looked forward to most and what brought him the greatest joy. In the end, all he ever wanted was a big, happy family–and that's exactly what he had and will always have.
Steve is survived by his wife, Lin; his children, Rachel (Mike), Andrew (Dena) and Jamie (Camila); his mother, Marjorie; his stepchildren, Amanda (Chris) and Brandon; his sister, Stacey; and his grandchildren, Jude, Ronin and Maxwell.
Steve will be missed greatly by all who knew him and he leaves a lasting legacy within the community and a forever lasting impact on his loved ones.
Services will be private.
