It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of Steven Andrew Mason Banks, a cherished husband, father, son, and friend, who departed this life on November 18, 2025, at the age of 67. Born on May 29, 1958, in Norfolk, Virginia, Steve grew up in Raleigh, North Carolina, where he developed a deep appreciation for family and community. He held a special place in his heart for Eastern North Carolina and family memories there.
Steve was the son of Myron Banks and Nancy Hobbs Banks and is survived by his beloved wife, Margaret Banks; his son, Andrew Banks; his daughter, Margaret (Maggie) Banks, and her husband, Bryce Gamble. He is also survived by his father, Myron Banks, as well as his siblings; Caroline Whitley (Neal) and David Banks (Beth); and loyal companion, his dog, Guinness.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Nancy Hobbs Banks.
A graduate of the University of North Carolina, Steve dedicated his career to financial management in the credit union industry, holding leadership positions at State Employees Credit Union of North Carolina, and Greenville Federal Credit Union. His commitment to service extended beyond his professional life; he was a lifelong member of the Methodist Church, serving as a youth delegate to the United Methodist Church General Conference, as well as at the South Carolina Annual Conference and the Convening General Conference of the Global Methodist Church. Steve was a faithful servant to the Lord through serving on numerous missions and committees at Covenant Methodist Church.
Steve's passions included singing. Throughout the years he was a dedicated member of his churches' choirs, as well as a member of Palmetto Statesmen Barbershop Chorus. He was an Eagle Scout and an active member of the Pleasantburg Rotary Club, contributing to his community through various volunteer efforts, including coordinating the church's soup kitchen.
In his leisure time, Steve embraced hobbies such as travel, hiking, gardening, cooking, reading, and birding. He approached life with a joyful spirit and a generous heart, leaving an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing him.
We rejoice in the fact that Steve is now with Jesus.
A celebration of life service will be held at Covenant Methodist Church located at 1310 Old Spartanburg Road, Greer, SC 29650 on December 6, 2025, at 1:30 p.m., followed by a reception at the same location.
