Steven McGuigan Obituary

McGuigan, Steven Andrew
ALBANY - Steven Andrew McGuigan, known always as "Drew", born July 16, 1978, in Westwood, N.J., died suddenly at his home, of an accidental overdose, in Gloversville, N.Y., on May 29, 2024. He was 45 years old. He lived in Charlotte, N.C., Granville and Albany, too.
He is survived by his daughter, Annelise M. McGuigan of Fla.; his loving mother, Patricia C. Merz, of Niskayuna; and his two brothers, Christopher J. Merz, and his wife, Vanessa, of Fla., and Jonathan E. Merz of Co.; and his favorite nephew, Alexander J. Merz, of Fla.
He will be so missed by his family, and so many friends from the Nuevo Clinic in Albany, where he fought such a hard and courageous fight to get himself better, and where he grew as a loving person of compassion for all those struggling with anxiety, depression, P.T.S.D. and substance abuse disorder. He would say "never give up", find and try all treatments and groups available, build a support system, and be kind and forgiving to everyone struggling with anything. He believed that kindness went a long way.
Rest in peace now. Drew, I will miss your long, strong hugs so much. You will never be forgotten; love never passes away.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Office of Addiction Services and Support (OASAS), carry Naloxone, and remember substance abuse disorder is a disease.

Drew
You will be missed by so many but NEVER forgotten! I am so lucky to have got the gift to have met you. You are one of the most kind-hearted people I have ever met and you always kept it real and spoke how you felt- no matter what.!-There's not many people like that anymore. May you rest peacefully. My deepest condolences to your family. Especially your daughter who you spoke of so often! And your mother! We will "Never give up!"

My beautiful, big hearted, super smart and sweet son, Drew,You really had a beautiful soul, and a way with words and sentimental feelings, you always reminded me, to remember what was important! I am sorry you had to fight for such a long time and so hard. But by doing so, you helped so many others! It was not in vain , and as your brother Chris so eloquently, God kept you here with us for 45 years for a reason!! I will find a way to keep your fight going and I won't let you be forgotten. I will keep Annelise as close as I possibly can, and I will keep you proud of me! I will find a way to live with this hole in my heart To inspire is to light a fire, you lit many candles! I am most comforted by the fact that the physical, emotional, and mental torment is over, forever. You will live in my heart forever and I know we will be together again... because love never passes away. Your best friend/ and proud Mom, love always......,.........
