Steven Ray Minor, 60, of Bristol, Va., passed away on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, at Bristol Regional Medical Center. He was born on October 6, 1964, to Ray Carl Minor and Susie Conrad Minor in Ashland, Ky.

Steve demonstrated exceptional academic prowess, culminating in his graduation from Conestoga Valley High School in Lancaster, Pa., where he was honored as a National Merit Scholar. He furthered his education at the University of Virginia and pursued legal studies, attaining his Juris Doctorate from the College of William and Mary, Marshall Wythe School of Law in 1989, and successfully passing the bar exam that same year.

Steve became a partner at Elliott, Lawson & Minor P.C., where he distinguished himself in his legal practice. His expertise spanned various fields including business and commercial law; civil rights law; constitutional law; employment law; litigation, personal injury defense; and state, local, and municipal law; as well as warranty and products claims.

Steve's contributions to his profession and community will be remembered, and he leaves behind both a legacy of dedication and excellence in the legal field and a solid reputation as a witty raconteur. He was honored to serve on the boards of the Appalachian School of Law and the Southwest Virginia Legal Aid Society, among others.

He married the love of his life, Jill Rhudy Minor, on July 7, 2011.

The "wild bunch" that his wife brought to their marriage for him to help parent and inspire are: Erin Minor, of the home, who took his name; Jonathan Barrett, of Bristol, Tenn., Alex Barrett, of Independence, Va., Emily Dalton, and husband, Adam, of Charles Town, W.Va., Second Lieutenant William Barrett, U.S. Army of Fort Riley, Kan., and Katarina Barrett of Raleigh, N.C.; and grandson, Alfred.

In addition to his parents, wife, children and grandson, Steve is also survived by his sister, Joan Minor, of Abingdon, Va.; mother-in-law, Rev. Gloria Lancaster Rhudy, of Independence, Va.; two nieces, April Lewis, and husband, Matthew, of Meadowview, Va., and Autumn Thompson, and husband, Jake, of Boone, N.C.; nephew, Eli Porter of Klamoth Falls, Ore.; grand-niece, Bella; and a host of extended family, dear friends and respected colleagues.

A celebration of life will be held at a later time.
