STEVEN MOORE Obituary

STEVEN MOORE 05/27/1962 - 07/15/2025 Steve Moore, age 63, of Olathe, KS, passed away on 7/15/2025 after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease. Steve was born on May 27, 1962 in Muskogee, OK to Verne and Patricia Moore. The middle child of three, he grew up in Dallas, TX, before moving to McPherson, KS where he would graduate high school and attend college. Growing up, Steve loved playing sports, captaining the McPherson High School Bullpups and earning a football scholarship to continue playing as a McPherson College Bulldog. He also enjoyed wrestling, singing in choirs at school and church, and built many lifelong friendships. In high school, he met Judy while working as a line cook at McPherson's Sirloin Stockade, and they dated through high school and college. Steve and Judy married in 1986, and eventually settled in Olathe, KS, where they raised their family. Steve was loved and is survived by Judy; their children, Lindsey, Abbie, & Grant; grandchildren, Noah, Eli, and new arrival Chandler; his mother, Patricia; and his siblings, Lynn Moore and Karen Thiessen, as well as many other family members and friends. He spent his career working in commercial insurance, where he was a trusted colleague and found meaning in helping people prepare for and manage challenging situations. But he lived for his life outside of work, especially spending time with his family and friends. A true soccer dad, he loved supporting his kids' sports teams and other hobbies. He was always making music-singing in choirs & ensembles, playing the bass guitar in the church band, and even once, humming in a kazoo choir. At home or on a drive, you could often find him jamming to "dad rock". He remained a dedicated sports fan, loyal to the KU Jayhawks, the Chiefs, and the Royals, tuning into every baseball game, even in their worst seasons. He was a doting pet parent-for many years accompanied by his trusty chihuahua pug, Winston, and beloved against his will by the family cats, Louis and Clifton. His family and friends will remember him most for his goofy sense of humor, always looking for an opportunity to make someone laugh or cheer someone up. He was a valued friend, always willing to pick up the phone or lend someone a hand. His generosity was admirable-nothing made him happier than doing something to help someone else. He spent many hours volunteering at church and in the community. If you were in his life, you knew he cared about you. He has been and will continue to be very missed. Thank you to all the staff members of Rococo Healthcare Services & Ascend Hospice who took beautiful care of Steve in his final years. We are deeply grateful to all of the nurses and others whose compassion & service gave us peace of mind and created a supportive community that we have truly treasured. We can't thank you enough. A celebration of Steve's life will be held on Saturday, 8/9/25 at 11AM, at the Leawood campus of Church of the Resurrection, 13720 Roe Avenue, Leawood, KS in the Wesley Chapel. We will enjoy a BBQ meal together after the service, from 12-2p, in the same location. The building is located on the east side of the Resurrection campus and parking is best accessed off of Roe Avenue. Please RSVP for the meal here so we know how many will be joining us. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Steve's memory to: The Youth Ministry of Church of the Resurrection West, where Steve loved volunteering - there will be a donation table at the memorial service that will include physical and virtual donation options City Union Mission in Kansas City, as Steve loved attending their annual gala - you can donate online here, direct support "where needed most", and "in memory of" Steve Moore.
